I have a 22 ton Huskee splitter. Bought new in 2014. I thought about adding a log lift to it. Saw one made by rugged made. But it’s not in stock. Would this be a good idea or am I opening a can of worms trying to do this? I process around 3-4 cords of wood for personal use. So a new expensive splitter with a lift is out of the question. Thanks in advance.

I've got a northern tool 37T splitter and have been considering that exact option for a couple of years. I just never pulled the trigger. If you do it, keep us informed. I'm getting older and lifting those rounds gets harder every year. Splitting vertical hurts my back.

Also, you would need to purchase a valve for the splitter that has power beyond. That is assuming that your current valve doesn't have power beyond. Or you could engineer a diverter valve and plumb the power and return lines back into the system.

Thanks for the replies. I read some good reviews on the rugged made one. But I’m hoping someone on here has done it. I don’t know much at all about hydraulics. But I’ve done my share of turning wrenches, fabricating and welding too.

If you can fabricate/weld, then I'd just make one...no extra hydraulics needed...lots of examples of log lifts out there using mechanical advantage (linkage/long bar) or a cable/pulleys powered by the splitter cylinder...that's the route I took...works great.
Hey buddy, will you give me a lift?

That is another good option. Thanks for the link.

With my 22 ton husky when I split rounds that are to big to pickup I just pull the lunch pin and tip the beam up to vertical and bust them up. But that's just me.

Yea I’m just not a fan of it. It’s very uncomfortable for me.

Do yo have a table on the splitter? I would put a work table at the top of the list. I’m not talking about a little bar or small grate, I’m talking about a real 3 ft table. I built one for my splitter and it made a world of difference. No more bending over to pick up splits or chunks. If I can’t lift a round, it gets noodled or two of us lift it or the bobcat gets used.

That’s a good idea. I only have a small grate. It helps, but bigger would be better.

I am able to stage rounds on mine. It speeds things up when unloading the truck or trailer. One person can stack rounds on the table and I can roll them into place.

Can you share a photo? I'd like to see what you built.
