I'm tired of humidity...fall can't get here fast enough.

Today's morning project was putting together some picnic tables. I've built several in the past but the el cheapo kits from Menards never seem to make it more than a couple years before they are trash. I decided to buy once, cry once this time around. I looked at some of the poly models but they are absurdly priced. Since these are going to be under roof on the porch I bought some commercial quality metal legs and some SYP 2x10's that I stained.

I got the boards from the Amish lumber yard. I'll never buy lumber from Menard's again. I would have had to sort through two bunks of wood to get boards that were as nice as the 5 on the top of the stack at the Amish place. Just as cheap too. I hate to think how many hours of my life I have wasted picking through lumber when I could have just gone to this place.

I have pretty good luck finding decent lumber at our local Menards...still hafta sort a little, but WAAAY better than bLowes or HD!
But the worst I've seen lately was last year at the local private owned lumber yard (Amish/Mennonite) I had to sort through 1/2 bunk of 2x12's to get 3 decent 12 footers! There was all kinds of live edge showing, deep saw marks, bug holes/rot, etc...disappointed for sure...wasn't cheap either!

Well, we are on the other end of the spectrum but I’ll be happy to not have to pay taxes on Social Security which as a business owner(s) we paid in both the employee and the employer portion for many, many years! Just thankful that we don’t have to rely on just SS in retirement:thumbs:

Only once, in boy scouts like 30+ years ago. We camped at eaa and our troop got to do a 5k run with either Neil Armstrong or buzz aldrin I don't recall which one it was.

It gets stupid. You can't even drive around/ past Oshkosh when it goes. The freeway gets backed up even. It got to be so bad that we'd just avoid going to north to the cabin when it was going on.

That said, we almost went last year. Wife reserved a house that said it was closer
Nope. Had to cancel that VRBO/ Airbnb. It was on the other side of lake Winnebago. Was about an hour away by car. Now as the crow flies it was much much closer. Deceptive advertising at least. No penalties to cancel it. Fwiw, it's 69 miles from my house to eaa, 1 hr 10 minutes.

I haven't been hourly for decades now. Pros and cons to everything. I just recall when I was hourly, that extra taxes kicked in. Now OT taxes are going away January 1st.

The 4 warthogs did a full support reenactment. First was the use of the BRRRRRRRT GAU-8 avengers, then they simulated dropping a 500 lb mark 82 bomb. I wish they had at least fired some blanks from the 30mm guns. That sounds is amazing.

I'm partial to the A10, but stealth fighters, I'm all about the f-22. So it was really cool seeing them both last weekend.

As a kid, my cousin and I got treetop buzzed by a couple warthogs while we were in the woods near Fort McCoy. I'll never forget that, it was epic.

My husband has some staff changes in the last months. One of the company trucks is in the shop. The crews were split up according to specialty knowlege for two jobs. The old 99' Ford F250 (back up truck with a zillion miles so it stays on local jobs if needed). Of all things nobody on the local job crew knows how to drive a clutch

So the old Ford went 150 miles to Casper today. WWW lost most of his work day today towing up the 5th wheel dump trailer in my truck 300 mi round trip because Ford is only bumber hitch, no tongue.

    Blows my mind!

I haven't had real grass (or sidewalk nor paved driveway) since 1993. Wild when I think about after knowing mowing and weed whacking like yesterday. A giant blob drift killed our mower a couple years ago and we did not apply weed killer this year. Currently have a grove of 2-4' weeds in back. Idk, the winter birds feed on the red seeds lol.

If/when we ever get to town I'll have a very small yard with a deck and sod like Woodwidow mentioned, only smaller than her yard I think. I'd like to get a small electric mower like you floated a year ago. I think about you everytime I see the cordless ones on sale.

That's cool! I ran the Bolder Boulder the first few years as a kid, next volunteering swim lessons at the pool, then driving/working age the blockages for it got stupid. Couple years later :picard:the Coor's Classic Bicycle came to town and blocked every single way to get to the pool worked for all those summers, Super Stupid! Sometimes I still have dreams about driving block after block with stop signs every block like I had to do to leave my house with Dad in high school, either way north or way south to get to main road, stupid!

TBH, I don't really have much real grass - I have lots of weeds that look nice when they are mowed - LOL.

I did get a battery mower this spring. I opted for a Ryobi 21" brushlees, multi blade, self propelled (not AWD) that is equivalent to 170 cc gas mower. It was expensive (although I did hit a sale, so not as expensive as today's price), but it was my BD present to myself from Christmas money.

    Screenshot 2025-07-22 023829.jpg

I figured I would use the gas mower (150 cc) for that "bad" areas in the yard, or when I have to mow while the grass is wet. The north side water drainage area has some good rocks hidden in the grass. Plus, that area is usually wet/damp and has always been a bear to mow the Toro Recycler (and any mower I had previously). To my surprise, the Ryobi does way better and will power thru anything I throw at it more easily and without bogging down.

I haven't had the Toro out except to start it once every 4-6 weeks. I need to get off my butt and sell it or give it away.

Bonus #1 - no gas or oil costs (or smells) and I charge the batteries with solar. The downside - I filled a gas can this spring thinking I would be using the gas mower at times so would need it - LOL

Bonus #2 - I can turn the mower upside down to clean out grass accumulation easily (when I mow wet grass), and for storage I can fold up and lean against a wall without liquids leaking all over.

That's a difference between country and city folk.

As long as it's all green, it's good enough.

Yup...and dandelions/clover are "bee habitat" so
I actually just read something back in the spring about how important the dandelions are to bees, because early on its about the only thing they have to sustain them, until other things start to bloom.

I've been there only once but might go again. It's worth it for a couple days.

FedEx does our Walmart shipping deliveries. Normally on time. But USPS will let it ride around in a truck for almost a week. Sunday Amazon deliveries are usually delivered on Monday.
