When this was wet I thought it was hard maple, but the growth rings said otherwise. This is very heavy and split very easily. IMG_8075.jpeg IMG_8074.jpeg IMG_8079.jpeg IMG_8080.jpeg

Nice scrounge today. Already bucked and split. Red oak, hard maple, and two black locust splits. IMG_8218.jpeg IMG_8218.jpeg IMG_8219.jpeg IMG_8220.jpeg IMG_8221.jpeg IMG_8229.jpeg IMG_8230.jpeg

Got a call from a customer who had this huge limb (her words) come down in a storm Thursday night. IMG_7598.JPG Cut it up for firewood for her. IMG_7599.JPG View attachment 451964 Hauled the brush to the dump five minutes away. Found Cherry, small sassafras pole, and some Eric Wanderweg sized mulberry :D Not much but easy for the taking and as a dedicated hoarder I couldn't leave it behind. IMG_7601.JPG Pulled in my driveway and grabbed the two sycamore logs "buried" in the tangle from the recent trimming work. IMG_7602.JPG

How does that sycamore split for you? Never had any.

Not missing much Joe. It can be miserable stuff to split. Lower BTU and produces lots of ash from what I've heard on here.

Normally its on my do not take list along with elm and gum, but being smaller and straight I took it. If I remember I'll take pics of the splitting.

Cut and split today. Made the hydro grunt a couple times. It has lots of water so some wetness on the entry cut. On the brittle side as the stringiness kinda snaps as it goes through. The exit wound reminiscent of elm. Not a pretty split that's for sure. I guess I'll take it if smaller diameter and straight. Not gonna go out of my way for it that's for sure. It went in the general cordage pile. IMG_7610.JPG IMG_7611.JPG IMG_7612.JPG

That woods so ugly you’d have to tie a pork chop around its neck to get the dog to play with it. :)

It does make beautiful lumber, if you can keep it straight.

At my "unlimited supply" cut he has a large chain saw type mill set up. I noticed a huge sycamore log in to be cut. I recall seeing pictures of a member who had milled some. Quarter sawn was even prettier.

Very small transfer station scrounge yesterday, I’m mostly posting to let everyone know I’m alive and doing fine. A nice piece of red oak and some maple. IMG_8779.jpeg IMG_8780.jpeg IMG_8781.jpeg IMG_8782.jpeg IMG_8783.jpeg

Good to know you’re still kickin Thom.
Took a ride to my local wood dump this afternoon. They had it all cleaned up and I was worried it would be a wood dump no more. Looks like some white oak ready for the picken. Let’s see if I can be the first to scoff it up. Shouldn’t be too much competition in July. IMG_3774.jpeg IMG_3773.jpeg IMG_3772.jpeg

Better be there when they open the gate. Will they let you use the winch there?

There’s no gate and anything is legal. Chainsaws, winches, helicopters, whatever. Odd for Ct I know.

You should request the use of the FHC Helicopter!
