I thought about leaving it open somewhat but I'm not sure if it will work out for me.the spot were I put it is 50's out of my shop and up against the south property line which is lined with trees. Always seems to be damp and wet back there from all the shade.I know in winter I have lots of snow blow up drift there. Its like a big wind tunnel for snow and rain.
I am going to put plywood from the skids on it, but I thought I might hinge a few of the sheets like big 4x8 doors to let air through. Then I can close them when the weather goes to crap.

I'm not sure why, but I really like the storage sheds when the wood frame is left to age a natural gray. I especially like the ones that use wood poles.

Mine looks kinda rustic. PHOTO_20140408_165343.jpg this was right after I built it. It's full now:D only spent about $60 or less on it. All old cross arms from work for frame work. $20 for the unused roof that was in my BIL's barn and $23 for some new screws.

I never worry about rain or snow blowing on the sides of the pile. It dries fast because it is only surface moisture.

I agree it's just moisture on the exterior but I am so burned with wood being wet all winter that I keep thinking I need it all enclosed.:headbang:

It all takes time. No sense stressing yourself over a wood shed tarps will work in the now. O.T. is always a good thing whether to help with the unexpected or to put back for a rainy day. You'll get through it if you sit down and think you've probably been through worse. Hope all goes well for you.

The bad thing is if snow blows in on your stacks and the temperature gets above freezing then, it melts all down through your stack, then if it gets cold and refreezes, go ahead and try burning icicles.
If the stack is tarp, top covered, the top stays covered as the pile shrinks, in an open wood shed once it gets about one third empty, snow will blow in like crazy,, that's not a problem if it stays real cold you can just knock it off but if it warms up, its not good.
I hooked up tarps on the front and back of my little wood shed last year just before the snow, and it worked great

Exactly, I have been telling people that's the problem I have here in Iowa if I have open sides, you explained it to a T the way it relates to me, in a cool garage or a wood box in the house it takes forever to dry, the snow gets packed in like sardines. For me drying in the open and putting it in a enclosed building makes the most sense.

yeah thats been my issue. The wood is covered with tarps then it snows.Move the tarps and snow falls in the stack.Eventually the stack is covered anyways then it rains and it melts then freezes again.Someone doesn't recover stack and it gets rained on or snowed on then its froze. So the shed will be a life saver i think.I do plan to put tarps on a cable on each door way to keep the bad weather off.
Our family just got dealt another unexpected blow last night.Ugh is there no end to all the turmoil!:headbang:I am almost at my wits end right now.I know there are lots worse off than me,but these are my problems and I am trying to make the best of them.Pray the good lord will send me a little help here soon.I think its time to go out and build something now.

Hang in there Jackel. Hope you can get on the other side of the turmoil soon. In the meantime, planning & building your new woodshed could help keep your mind on something else. Yup... in the winter, a woodshed sure is awesome. You'll be glad you built it... :axe:

I don't drink, but I find this very useful when feeling overwhelmed:
God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change,
The courage to change the things I can,
And the wisdom to know the difference.

Thanks guys for the encouraging words. The wife, son, and I got a corner post set.put up some girt boards and then found out i had run the first 16' out of level some how.:headbang:
So I pulled a new string line and level.Fixed those girts after head racking.Oh well I guess we got something done.I did relax a bit while listening to the farmer opening up the corn field beside me with his combine.
Hopefully tomorrow after work I can get a little more done..Got to keep making headway on something.:axe:

Answers to prayers aren't always the most obvious but if you take a minute to reflect, you will realize that the answers and blessings are there. We get too distracted by the problems to remember to stop and praise the Lord for the strength he has given us for each day and his blessings.

Your exactly right.I think sometimes the Lord has to remind us of how things are to be when we get lost on our way.Wife said the same thing to me while we were outside last night.Hopefully when I get off work some more can be accomplished. Hoping to move another skid in and get it blocked up and level, or just put up more boards.
