    He's kinda on o p e.
Maybe not one of the most fashionable porters but I think he does good work, and his price was good......only issue was, he had the saw for a bit over a year.

Yeah, I'd'a been miffed if I had been in a hurry.
He did say he was kinda slow, but......
I have no complaints, and.....it makes a good story.
    Lol

Update on the 4010. Removing the limiters to adjust the carb didn't help with being rich when limbing. So I did some investigation to figure out what feeds what, and where it flows, using carb cleaner. Then I picked the brain of someone who really knows saw carbs inside and out on how they remedy it.

20241201_105353.jpg The circled hole to the right feeds fuel to the high needle, which you can adjust but, the hole in the slotted jet you have no control over and feeds the high speed circuit from around 1/2 throttle to wot. You can close the H needle completely off on this saw and it still runs. I tried to remove it to solder it shut but it wouldn't budge so I JB welded a welch plug over it. I hope to test it tomorrow now that I will have full control of the air / fuel ratio on the H screw. Some people call these "governors" as they basically prevent you from leaning the saw out.

Well no wonder I couldn't get it to lean up!

Between that and the limiters, there's no way it'll run anywhere near it's real potential.

Correct. Here's a vid demonstrating for thise that aren't familiar. If you pull up it cleans up or if push down hard enough. Otherwise, it blubbers unless you are cutting much larger wood.

The 590 Timberwolf has the same thing in the carb. The saw is so common the replacement plug without a hole in it is readily available online. The cheap and easy fix is to jb weld it like you did.

Knowing that about the 590 /620 is why I tore into this carb. Sure enough, there's the warranty protector. Lol

I just wasn't 100% on what to plug because it had thee visible jets plus other holes. Now I know what to look for.

FAIL! Would not run below 1/2 throttle with that plugged no matter how far out the needles were opened. it would rev out like it should beyond that. They might look like the jet in a 590 / 620 but it appears to not feed the same thing. I got lucky and got the JB welded welch plug out and tada! idles and operating normal again. I put a new full chiz chain on it and took the rakers down to .035. So far it running much better than before. Maybe the hungry chain is all it needed. I'm not accepting that answer just yet.

Is the H circuit back fed by that orifice? I believe the 3120XP H jet (when you mod it), is fed the same way. Hence I’m having the same issue, I cannot get it to lean out even turning the H in until closed, which I believe is what you tried. It’s fixable, but from what Kevin said, it’s a tad more involved.

I have abandoned the 4010 project. One of my nephews is buying it. If I could change the name of this thread to Echo saw projects, I'd continue here with the 501P progress.

I could use a toothpick, per Mrxlh to test which jet I can plug to defeat the "governor" but, the nephew likes it as is with the rakers at .035.

The toothpick could easily be removed.

Ok, thanks to Backwoods Savage the title has been modified to reflect the change in this thread. Here is the start. As some may have seen in the what's on your bench thread, I was given a hard use Echo 501P with 18" Tsumura lite bar and three woodland pro full chisel chains. Two still in their boxes. I'm in process of doing a deep clean in preparation for dying all the plastic black and future performance modifications. It already has a muffler mod and carb limiters removed. The saw has 100-150 tanks of fuel through it doing some commercial arborist work and a lot of fire wood cutting. Mostly original formula Red Armor or Dolmar Synthetic @ 40:1. A bit of Amsoil Dominator mix as well. If you zoom in on the piston pic you can see the machine marks are still there. Until next update... 20241215_075721.jpg 20241215_075752.jpg 20241215_075736.jpg 20241216_123951.jpg 20241216_123946.jpg 20241216_123954.jpg signal-2024-12-16-12-52-47-001.jpg signal-2024-12-16-12-52-51-819.jpg 20241216_123934.jpg

Excellent condition considering commercial use. Just needs a wash.

    Great progress
I really need to splurge on an ultrasonic cleaner; they're not even that expensive. Well worth it if you do enough saw builds or simply don't like running them hard and putting them away dirty.

It is yes. The ultrasonic cleaner is doing a great job with that super clean.

So far this one is great. Its analog. I was advised to skip digital versions as they have issues.
