I don't know much about them, never seen one in person, just in a video. I need to do some research before I decide. Thanks for letting me know about it.
Do they have points ignition? The thing that worries me is buying one in unknown condition and having to put more into than it worth. You know more than I do about them. What's your opinion on it?
They have points according to the link above. I haven't had to do anything to the points on the few I've had. They can be chipped to eliminate the points. They are neat little saws. The value depends on how much you want one and how useful they are to you. One mans junk is another mans treasure so the saying goes. Air filters and the duck bill valves they use are readily available as are carb kits. They take bulk type fuel lines, not a specific molded type. Easy to work on.
I would like to have a running one just to use for fun. I wouldn't mind having one that needs a little work, I just don't know when I would have time to work on it.
Been trying to get it to run for 2week now. then it dawned on me…. Put the air filter on because of how the fuel pump works… And it started 3rd pull in all it’s flooded glory. I didn’t have any bugs in the area for some time. got an inductive tach and checked the rpm settings. low idle-3800 High idle -13500 bumped it down on the high Low idle -2600 High idle 12800… Time to go cut the test cuts I made, this thing chews up mulberry like it’s nothing. chain height gauges are aggressive too at 0.030”. Holzforma G660 with Stihl yellow chain. played with the tach and the MS362CM. this thing was running like crap. Low idle -3100 High idle - 8700 ran the M-Tronic 3.0 calibration… low idle - 2800 High idle - 14200 holy cow does this thing eat wood now.
lol, I saw Carlo Rossi and had flashback to the early 2000s. Some might poo poo mr Rossi. Until you have tried the likes of Night Train, Cisco, Thunderbird, mad dog or wild Irish rose. I like Husqvarnas alright.
I've made more money fixing or rebuilding those saws more than anything else probably ms250s second place A lot of guy's had me put those china 40.00 390 shortblocks in the 290/310s They swear by them over stock 290s The fastest selling saws I've ever had are the 290 they'll sell faster than a 310 or 390 Stihls marketing did good for that series back then My local dealer sold them by the pallet to to farmers,tree services, municipalities,amish etc. Echo's like the 490/4910 whatever and 590s have a big chunk of the local market now Close to 2 echo's for the price of one stihl.
When he switched to Husqvarna 262s my neighbor offered me about 40 homelite XL12s He'd ran them since they were introduced in the 60s About 30 of them had bad prestolite coils He would bake them at 300* for 10 minutes and it usually got them firing again He used Nova ignition chips to bypass the points But usually the points were so reliable he didn't need to I took 3 or 4 of the super xl12 runner's i really didn't have any use for 60-80 used 16-20" bar's and a couple hundred chains He sold timber for 60 year's started out with lombard and McCullouchs 2 man saws and was blown away by those little lightweight XL12s In the 60s and later ran 154 and 266 Husqvarna's He was born deaf by the way That's why he ran homelites so long.
These pingel starters are near 600.00 and they don't offer a rebuild kit for them So we modified a summit s10 high torque starter somebody gave us Work's perfect. This 1260 ported Kawasaki is supposed to produce up to 160hp And can't be kicked The pingel starts it right up.
Not sure where you got your prices from. I'm not a 311 boat anchor fan, but echo ain't 1/2 the cost. Not even close.
I wore out all my vice grips so i bought new Irwin and tried out some klein I'm really liking the Klein very tight tolerances and quick release Found this little precision driver set it was only 6.00 handy for red dots.
I paid 350.00 each for 2 echo 590s and 2 echo 4910s Echo dealer here for a couple of them And a couple from ebay I ran one 590 for about 7 year's for firewood.
I prefer Echo but they aren't that cheap anymore and the 4910 is no longer produced. My first 2511 was under 400. Now they are over 500.
