Well I had told the lady to have them leave the wood in longer pieces as they were coming today. I stopped by before my job to check and my heart sank. Random tree service lengths. :headbang: IMG_5699.JPG
Had to make a materials run later and the boss was there. He said rest will be in long lengths. Really cool guy easy to talk to. Stopped end of day and no additional work had been done other than brush pile gone. Unusual crawler type lift. Never have seen one like it. May have time Wednesday to cut a load. IMG_5702.JPG

Yeah same here. Looks like I'm making a nugget bin for high btu chunks. I have some dogwood and shag for it and from the looks of it lots of HL too.

Ahh, the trial and tribulations of a wood hoarder!

That looks like a spider lift when you get it into position it has 4 outriggers I even think they go 80 or 90 feet high
The other cool thing about them is they are supposed to be able to fit thru a 36” gate

Tree service used one of those out here a few years ago clearing the power lines. Really cool watching it in action. The base lifts off the ground and only the outriggers are on the ground.

Man those bottom rounds are gonna be tough. I predict 1.5 cord, stacked.

I got a bunch of tree service wood on the road in front of my place. Every piece is like that. Cut it in half and you have two too short pieces. Cut it at 16" and you only have one short piece. I swear every tree guy should have to heat with firewood for a year before they are allowed to operate a chainsaw.

Part of the reason I started measuring my rounds. Uniformity aids in stacking and packing the stove for me. Just a touch of OCD as well I'm sure.

241 and I spent a little while at the pile after work today bucking to 16". Cut about half a load. Lots of cookies and shorts. No additional work done there which is fine by me for now. Quick trip to storage to unload. IMG_5714.JPG IMG_5715.JPG IMG_5716.JPG

I just eyeball everything but shoot for 16” most of the time. My shorties will work perfect in the smaller stove I’m putting in the basement and the nc30 will take up to 20”ish. I will sometimes mark out 16” pieces on bigger logs, but if I get to the end and am going to have an oddball, I will leave it a little long or cut it into two shorties. I try to burn up most of my shorties and chunklies in the fall when I first start burning, but if I get the other stove installed, I will save them to take the chill off when I want to hang out in the basement.

Biggest thing I noticed about that huge HL I sliced up, I couldn't load the truck or trailer anywhere near what I normally do. That stuff was very heavy/dense! Are you finding the same yet?

Yes. Heaviest wood when green IMO. Load from a couple years ago.[IMG]
