The house I'm working on has one of these "Murphy" doors I think I've heard them called. I need to remove it before I have the floors refinished. I'm not worried about reinstalling it because I want it open between the dining room and kitchen. I'd rather not butcher it up if I find someone who wants it locally. Thanks in advance.
I don’t believe I have ever taken one of those doors apart so looking at it I am thinking at the bottom you could try pulling the screws on the clam shell or try taking the screws out of the floor your other option it looks like you could take a sawzall and metal blade and cut between the door and the door frame at the top
That was my guess. We have a door similar and that's what I do with it. Bottom has a threaded piece you can turn in to get some slop in it.
I'll tell you how it goes some time this week. I was putting a last minute "to do" list together when I left yesterday. Thanks everyone
That would be my luck...some handy man that didn't know what he was doing and just framed around the door...
Before you try to remove the screws I would spray a little penetrating oil. I should think you would find a good salvage market for such a door!
Finally got a minute to work on removing the door. I stopped by the house after work yesterday...it was the easiest door I've ever removed in my entire life. It was only the 4 screws then slide it out. I thought surely there was more than that. Thanks!
