Maybe...worth a try...just have to try to find a good spot to pull/pry that doesn't break the plug...but if it does, you can buy replacement plugs with a pigtail to splice in...so not the end of the world by any means if it does break.

If your not looking to save the original I’d hold on to the plastic “block” then latch on to what’s left of the relay with a pair or pliers and yank it out like a bad tooth. Those plastic blocks are readily available if replacement is necessary.

Thanks guys! I’ll see if I can find some time today between projects and the lack of daylight!

Yup - as long as that lead is not connected to chassis ground, the engine should run.

Just make sure you understand that you should NEVER put power to this wire. That will fry your ignition module very quickly.

Had some time yesterday to work on this and figured out why the relays were so difficult to remove as you can see in the pics. Not sure what happened here, but the material on the plug was a cross between compacted foam and rubber. Used a razor blade to clean up the face of the plug and a pick to get everything out of the plug holes.

I used a little dielectric grease on the new relays when I installed them. The mower fired up just fine. So I then went back to the engine, pulled the recoil and shroud, plugged in the ground and tested it. It worked! All safety switches are back online and I can shut it down with the key.

Oddly, the mower knew the date:

I had given the machine a wash earlier in the day. Post fixing the electronics, I changed the oil, filter, air filter, pre filter, sharpened the blades and greased everything up. Should be set for the season now. Just need to touch up a few of those spots on the deck where there paint has flaked off.

General crispiness of the plug/connection...not uncommon.
Did it seem like all the female terminals made good connection? Often times when the plug is melted like that the terminals have been overheated and the metal has lost its ability to retain "memory", or more simply, the ability to make a tight connection, so it will heat up and melt again at some point.
If this does happen eventually, you'll probably need to replace the plugs, and likely relays again too, the plugs come with pigtails and you just cut off the old plugs and splice the new to the wire harness.
Glad she's working for ya though...if it happens again, you got this!

The new relays seemed to fit snugly. However, I will keep an eye on them, that’s a good suggestion. Thinking of ordering a few extra relays to have on hand just in case.
