Done deal. Ran the cylinder back and forth many times, split an ugly crotch that stopped it too. Then topped off the hydro tank. I think I pretty much used about 8 gallons in this thing. My 2nd bucket is darn near empty.

I got about 7.5 sec out and 6.25 return. I'll have to find the post where I timed before the change. Seems a bit quicker and it's definitely quieter!

Stopped it, as in stalled the engine, or popped the relief valve open?
In the video, is the engine WFO? If so, doesn't sound like 3600RPM to me...and since these are PD pumps, RPM is speed 1:1

No, I've never stalled the engine. Ram slowed to an eventual stop, it was a gnarly oak crotch, but revs just dipped a bit.

Yep, engine is wfo. I do have a Fast-Tack for saws, next time I have the splitter out I'll check rpm. And I'll eventually add that pressure gauge you shared.

Cruising right along today. brenndatomu wfo is 3,330rpm.

It’s been puking fluid out the tank overflow. Guess it was a bit too full? This is after a couple hours.

So that is at least somewhat close to 3600 rpm...that temp though, woof...as far as the overflow...yeah, could be a bit full, or leaning toward that side a little? Oil does expand a lil with temp too.
Does it seem like its working better?

Yes! The old pump was becoming a bit whiny. Lol. Return stroke is a good bit faster. Still haven’t found my post with old times. When the ram extends to the point of wedge “bottoming” out, motor doesn’t really change load. Before it would cough heavily. I always told dad to try and prevent that but his hand/eye coordination wasn’t quick. Now it’s bypassing instantly.:thumbs: And when hitting hard stuff, the change to slow speed is seamless. So all in all, two thumbs up. Just hope it lasts as long as my old one.
And the tank is sitting at an angle so the overflow is probably from that.

FYI, WFO will only occur with a load and when the governor puts it to full throttle when it senses said load. :p

It's actually high idle. Reach your finger and manually put the throttle plate at WOT with no load for a while once. Makes sure to record the result.

Anyway, high idle of 3,300 is way low in my book. I know bren will disagree, as he's probably already wearing triple ear protection at that RPM. :p :D

FWIW I run my high idle on my splitter around the 3,740 area.....and only one form of ear protection. My snowblower is a hair over 3,800 rpms with no ear protection. LOL

Even during the heaviest load, wedge barely moving, the engine doesn’t pull higher rpm’s. I could get video if requested. She stays pretty steady.
For chits and giggles, I checked my WheelHorse. About 600 at idle and 1700 wide open.

That stuff is all adjustable, if you think it happens too quick...just FYI.
