How is his wood hoard going? You still helping him accumulate wood?

 

Lots of progress! I always rake up the noodles because my wife uses them for mulch and chicken coop bedding. Sucks that you hit metal. It looks like it can be cleaned up without losing too much life in the chain?

 

Well, I let him borrow my splitter months ago and I don’t think he has used it once yet. Doesn’t seem to be motivated. The offer is there, I randomly send him primo free wood scores if I see them close. What he has to split is taking up as much yard space as they are willing to use so no more hoarding till it gets split and stacked.

 

When inflation started going out of control, neighbor said they were going to get a wood stove. Told them lots of work getting the wood. They just pointed at my backyard and said there it is. My response was that they still have to get it from there to across the street to their place.
They still don't have a wood stove.

 

Yes it can. Yesterday I had my breaker/spinner out ready to possibly replace those hit cutters but it didn’t take much to get them back. What I’ll do is mark those cutters, then I won’t file the depth gauge/raker down quite as far, so they aren’t “worked” as hard, in a effort to catch the rest of the chain up to the amount that was removed. Since it was random cutters, not all in a row, pretty sure it’ll still cut perfectly straight.

 

Took the 20 minute ride on lunch break to get the rest of this wood.


Also got a large contractor trash bag of noodles, tightly packed.

 

NO round (or in this case, shorty) left behind! Thats the FHC spirit!

 

Jason I"m curious as to how you mark those damaged cutters ??

 

Black sharpie. I always mark a L&R cutter when grinding/sharpening, so for the damaged one’s I only covered 1/2 the tooth. On that 36” loop, I used the Husky depth plate for rakers. Those damaged teeth got the hardwood side, rest softwood.

 

I use a sharpie a lot for my start/stop point if the chain doesnt have a double link.

 

Soooo.. while splitting this horse chestnut, dad threw several pieces to the side. He’s a carver and belongs to a club. He took a bunch in to their weekly meet and let people try it, they all raved. He gave me a spoon he made.



One of the guys also turns. Wish the one on the left had finish but it doesn’t.


I saved several crotch pieces and some burl. Hope to see what they do with it.

I come across cool grain spalting often and wish i had someone like that to give it to. My turner connection doesnt turn enough stuff.
