The dihedral wing formation makes a nice ride in turbulence. Coastal flying out here is in and out of a lot of hills or mountains as some would call them. We had a similar flight path as a Cessna 180 crossing the Rockies to the prairies with the Sundowner. Our ride was fairly comfortable and theirs was pretty rough. I don't quite understand the wing construction difference but it seems it was the way the wing spar was set up.

Nothing nicer than an evening sail in a small sailboat. Our first sailboat was a Paceship 23 trailerable with a shoal keel and daggerboard. We had a lot of fun in it just going out for an hour at a time in the evening.

High wing aircraft tend to have a straighter wing since the weight of the aircraft naturally hangs below the wing and tends to level the aircraft in roll axis.
A straight wing is more efficient because the lift it generates from each wing is directly up, vs low wing aircraft with sloped wings that actually generate lift at an upward and inwards angle.
Low wing aircraft need this V shape to the wings for roll stability, since the weight is above the wings. When the plane banks, the wing closer to horizontal generates slightly more lift, and this tends to right the aircraft from the bank.
The tradeoff is that the V shaped wings don't "grab" the air as firmly as a straight wing, so the V shaped wings ride easier through bumpy air.
You can easily test this with boats, V hulls cut through chopp and give a smoother ride that flat bottomed boats that tend to pound in rough waters.
The interesting thing is that the low wing Sundowner is faster than the low winged piper Cherokee, even though parts of it look less streamlined, and weights and engines are almost identical.
Beech managed to squeeze out some more efficiency somewhere.

My wife and I have birthdays 1 day apart. We were given passes to gunstock and planned on having fun on the mountain coaster, but the weather ended up cold and rainy. We ended up taking a drive up to Franconia notch anyway, did a short hike and checked out the old man of the mountain museum at Cannon mountain.
None of our children is old enough to remember seeing the profile, but they have things set up so you can see what it looked like.

If someone built a runway that went all the way around the world, Cessna would design an aircraft that would need to use it all.

Thanks for the information. We did notice that our Paceship 23 sailboat which had a flatter bottom was a rougher ride than the Ranger 29 had a wineglass bottom. The Paceship was a wetter boat for spray on deck than the Ranger as well. campinspecter courted me in a 13 ft 6 in runabout boat that was totally flat. Now that was rough going in a chop.

20231014_064947.jpg 20231016_074124.jpg got my first ride in a corporate jet, trying to figure out what caused one engine to start shaking the aircraft.
    Turns out it was compressor stalls. 20231016_134317.jpg 20231016_135611.jpg 20231016_135611.jpg 20231016_135618.jpg 20231016_135645.jpg
thre are four bleed valves on this engine and any one of them could be causing the stall. 20231016_135504.jpg
A jet engine produces too much air at idle rpm, so to keep the flame from getting blown out, there are valves that bleed off the extra air, keeping the airflow inside at a low enough speed.
These valves are closed by air pressure as the engine power increases, and must be fully closed at full throttle or you get momentary unlit conditions and then explosions that cause momentary backwards flow of air in the engine, called compressor stalls.
20231015_095055.jpg oil tank in the church started leaking after it was filled for the winter, ugh. 20231016_164705.jpg 20231018_153220.jpg 20231018_181103.jpg took me a week plus, but I got it changed by myself, glad it wasn't in the middle of the winter. 20231020_063127.jpg the new international terminal extension at Logan Airport

20231024_182134.jpg really making a dent in my backlog 20231025_174227.jpg getting the racks filled up for winter. The screwdriver on the left is my latest.
Small aircraft cowlings are often held on with spring loaded, quarter turn fasteners, and when they pop up they can launch the screwdriver tip onto the paint.
I discovered years ago that a short tip with a fill handle allows me to use the heel of my hand to maintain paint protection, even at awkward reaching angles.
I had the straight blade created years ago when that handle style was the latest from snap on, I had a cheapo Phillips that did the job until it wore out recently.
Took me a bit to convince my new dealer to create what I wanted, but it works great. 20231101_184515.jpg don't ever buy an LG refrigerator, we have to remove the iceberg it creates in the bottom of the freezer every few weeks.

Isabella Stewart Gardner museum, I really can't believe my parents never took me here as a kid. My parents met at northeastern University
and went here all the time because it was free back then.
This was my first time visiting, we went for a homeschool field trip. The artwork collection didn't impress me as much as the room decor and the central courtyard.

That was quite the building. I thought you had taken the family to Europe judging from the style of the architecture.
