I was just thinking the same thing....all our warm weather hoarding, tool using, stacking.....racks, all the months of work....the discussions and note comparing. So worth not turning the thermostat up, the heat of a hot fire on a cold day...

First frost here too. Hard frost in Gardner MA, less so in Worcester, more in NE CT.

If I could I'd give this more than one like! There's nothing that compares to the heat a wood burner puts out. It just feels different, better. I'll keep CSS wood until I give out.

Have been starting a fire in the evenings for a while now other than last week when it was 80. Last night was first "overnighter" fire in the insert.
25 this morning, house was 67 when I got up to go hunting. Felt good. Burning oak and cherry.

I got home from work and the house is 61 so I’m burning oak like it grows on trees.

What model quadrafire? We really like our 4100i bowfront insert.

I don't know you really, so I'll bring this up as gently as I can, but a tv above the fireplace is literally the worst place to put a TV, especially when there are fires in the FP,/ stove. The angle you need to look up is bad for your neck, the heat from the fire is really bad for the TV, and the fumes from the extra hot plastics are bad for any living creature to breathe.

Is there any other place that the TV can go? There's some really nice arm mounts that allow a lot of options. We put our TV on a wall mount a couple of feet to the side of our insert/ FP.

Had 2 cracked firebricks towards front. Replaced front 4 with Rutland brand fireclay rated for 2700f. The replacement brick was way way heavier than factory. Probably will eventually replace all of them with the Rutland brand. Loaded up a mix of a bunch of stuff for overnight. Got 66f inside right now

Same weather report as here in Rock County. We just couldn’t resist, even though we didn’t NEED a fire tonight. Burning buckthorn and mulberry chunks.

    Hi, Tom -

No need to be too gentle - we’re not wilting violets here! The fireplace was non-functional when we put the TV up. We moved in a few years back and had no functional fireplace until last night. Anyways, right now, the mantle is warm to the touch underneath, cool on top. The wall under the TV is cool. The bricks right above the firebox are pretty hot close to it, warm just under the mantle. We’ll likely install a non-wood, more modern mantle, um-ah-erm eventually (translate: when we can afford it).

Despite the photo, we actually don’t watch much TV in this room. Music mostly. The room where we DO watch the tube has a much older TV. I’ll discuss your suggestions with The Wife. We could just as easily hang a picture over the fireplace and upgrade our TV in the other room.

    Thanks for the good advice.

Oh - and it’s an Expedition I. One of only two models that would fit into our 70’s prefab fireplace.

Fully understand the situation. My vote, though it won't count in your house ;) , is to put a picture above the mantle and relocate the TV. :)

What surround did you go with, whenever it shows up?

Here's my quadrafire 4100 with Hayden soaking up the heat.

Did they wire the blower switch on the wall correctly? That would be my guess and not the snap disc. I know my installer had to write specific instructions for the electrician for my Quad.

I really like the 3-pane design on that rig. Hopefully they're not a “pane” to clean.

Thank you. I’m here all week. Tip your waitress, try the veal.

    ps beautiful lab.

Oh, the problem was ME and my impatience, coupled with being a newb. Once the box got up to temp, the blower functioned perfectly. Thanks for the reply!

44/75. Stove is still warm from 12 hours ago, so I'm not reloading it for the day.

Same here yooperdave. It was 1c/34f here at 6 am. I loaded a modest load of doug fir to chase away the dampness. I swear the house feels colder when its right around freezing then it does when its 10 below. I had a chill all day yesterday so hanging out by the wood stove was heavenly.
