Yes sir, they are. 6x6x10'. Hard to believe the difference in weight between those and a 4x4. Couldn't have done it without the 'Bota.
I learned it keeps the hunny-do list short...... We do take some time off occasionally, weekend before we started the deck, we went to visit a cousin close to Nashville, took them to the DAWGS game at Vanderbilt
Great work Jeff! Are most houses in your area built with a crawl space vs a foundation? I’m always intrigued by different building methods in various areas of our country.
The project is really coming along nice. Living our neck of the woods though, I would want a roof over at least part of the deck because of the rain we get.
She wants the whole deck covered, making it a porch. Wasn't in her budget right now, maybe in a couple years.
That was my thought too, that it would be awesopme with a roof over at least part of it. Having to stay within a budget stinks, but at least she has a plan/goal, so that is something.
We worked on the deck Monday morning after work, just Miz Carol and I. Had to do some innovative thinking...... First, we had to cut off the 6x6's at 36" height. Got them all marked, then screwed the 12" speed square to the post and used it for a guide on 2 sides Sawzall finished the cut... The posts next to the house presented another challenge, cut them off without damaging siding or shutter... Slide a piece of 7/16 plywood behind post, it was a tight fit at the shutter... After the posts were all cut, we made a jig to space and hold the 2x4's while toe screwing them to the 6x6's... It worked great... We got those completed before time to head home... Next is the cap board and pickets, maybe some underpinning.
We got a good bit done on the deck yesterday. Installed the cap boards... Trimming the miter for a tight fit Screwing it down Rounded the corners... Miz Carol trimming the pickets Installing the pickets, used finish nailer to hold them in place Then drilled holes for the trim head screws Deck inside view... We were 6 pickets short. Looked better with 3" spacing, I think 3 1/2" is what was figured. Then we started on the underpinning Entry done We have about 6 more courses to run this morning and the pickets
IME If you board the bottom of deck in (under pinning?) you will get critters.. If not you will get leaves and trash… great work Miz Carol and helper
