Got more pictures? I'm considering a log arch like that for my trailer because I can’t always bring the skid steer with.
Yeah for me anyway. Someone can go with a chainsaw and cut up some decent rounds. I find it easier to move on to greener grass I’ll keep an eye on it just in case they replenish the supply. There’s another wood dump down near Moodus I stumbled upon bout 4 years ago. Was mostly rotten junk at the time. Got the impression like a lot of small towns the town crews grab all the good stuff. I should take a ride down there again.
First pic is winch and frame. There’s a beefy subframe I built under there that runs back to a main cross beam. Thing doesn’t flex more than an 1/8”. In retrospect it should be higher to allow the rope clearance on the logs. The back bar is fixed with three picking points. The side posts are 1/8” thick tubing. The top piece is 1/4” 3x3”. Originally had the same light weight as a cross beam but one careless moment bent it so I did a rebuild. I intentionally wanted some weakness built into it. Wanted that bar system to fail before it tore the trailer in two All in all I’m still surprised how well the trailer and bar have held up. Trailer pockets were reinforced as well as under the bed in the pocket area. It’s a pretty tuff trailer.
Hope you had the hearing protection. Ran my 400 with the bark box Saturday and Sunday and sometimes forget how loud it is. Have you run it a lot yet? Your thoughts?
I’ve since cut the third spike off. Didn’t need it, grips better with two. Yes I suck at welding but none of my welds have broken yet.
Didn’t have the muffs. I’m deaf as a post anyway. Blew my eardrums out at around 13-14 years old. I’ll use em when I get a chance to really use that saw. So far I haven’t used it much. Yeah it’s damm loud. Mostly if I’m in a log pile and the sound doesn’t have a chance to escape in the open. That’s when I really noticed it,,,,or maybe it was just a bad day for my ears. Not so much the noise for me but the pressure in my ears caused real pain. To be honest I’m not sure it’s worth it. Can’t say I notice any increase in power. Does wake up the neighborhood tho
Yeah new rails. I have a cargo net that I need to install on the back. Need to cut it for height. The cut should fit the front if I decide to use it there. When all is done it will hold one cord of wood “tossed”. 180 cubic feet. Then I just back it under the conveyor. No more tennis elbow
My 400 came with it as well as the foam air filter. Did you get the foam filter too? Supposed to help from what ive been told.
Nope no foam. 462 has a good amount of power anyway. I’m starting to play with the sharpening angles again. A lot old performance can be found right there. Chatting with a guy on FB right now. Free logs for Saturday morning and more on the way
