Cut wood, dull chains, sharpen. Several.

Must be the grinding process, I found 4 work hardened teeth on a brand new chain I had to re sharpen on Sunday. I guess I need some of the circular grinding stones to fix them. I know it’s work hardened as I was able to file under one of the hard spots on 1 cutter.

work hardening of the chain teeth is something that happens , compounded by the chrome plating with Stilh chains being the worst in this case as they have a heaver chrome coat on them. Chrome is harder than most files. keeping chips from sticking in the file - the old go to method was to coat the file with chalk and of course a little bit of time with a file card every so often to remove any chips that do stick. Files only cut in one direction for the most , dragging them back with pressure just dulls them very quickly.

Yep, there was a guy who dragged a file backwards several thousand times and said it was fine, as a test, but that was not on chrome cutters.

Purchased the cheap dremel 3 pack chain grinding stones in the 3 different diameters. Chucked up in my drill on high works like a charm, just hit it for a couple seconds and viola, the hard spot is gone… 6C9DBF78-2703-4C2B-9CA8-72B5516F1CA9.jpeg

I have some grinding stones that ive used in my cordless drill. Have to remember to give that a shot. The diamond files did the trick though.
