Don't appear to be Pete. I think this was a garage cleanout where someone passed away and this just happened to be there. This guy who owns this buisness makes a "KILLING" on stuff. He advertizes cleanouts of homes, garages etc.. I live in a comunuty where there are "lots" of our senior folks, it's a shame usually when one of them passes:(.. this guy usually comes in like a actioneer and buys all the stuff for next to dirt. Then they move on to senior living and such. It's good for us working folks, but I wonder just how much our Seniors are making out on this. Some of this also is bank repo's from homes, Hard to say.

That there is what we call an "investment saw". Enjoy it for about a month Dave and stick it up on CL. If you get less than $300 for it I'd be surprised.

We have a bank that does that here as well... They have an auction house and a very big flea market style sales building. I like to go but I don't buy much. There are stories with every piece of equipment there some obvious most not so much. It's sad but defiantly interesting.

Could easily sell this for the money MasterMech described above and turn it into an 036/044!! :dex:

Or run it as is and still sell it for a profit a decade from now!

Wow Dave, that is certainly the deal 'o the day.....lol....
Awesome. My buddy runs one and it's great for bucking up the medium stuff, do a muffler mod on her and really wake that saw up. Run it for a couple years, take good care of it and make a profit....put that money towards an 036-044. Win win.....

Scotty, I took your advise and did a "minor" muffler mod on the 290 today. I left the screen in, but I opened up the front more with the grinder and drilled 2 @ 5/16 holes on the straight through to help it breathe easier. The piston looked like "brand new" so I don't think the saw was abused in any way, and the cylinder didn't have a mark on it, "from what I could see"…
What little bit I did o_O, was a big improvement in the throttle response, :cool:I have not cut with it yet but i'm sure it's gonna be fun:D

I don't know if I would sell it. There is a reason you went and have that saw. You didn't start out looking for a saw.
I once bought an old mantel clock. I have to keep it up high because both my dogs bark at it if they can see it. Hum....

Yeah but he's got a 390 as well, same weight, mo' powah! :saw::saw::saw:

@WeldrDave That mod looks great Dave, nice job peeling back the deflector! Those two holes in the dimple are straight-through vents that will bypass the internal baffle. How loud is it now?:saw:

Yes, In a few years he is going to move to his retirement home. I'm not a betting man, but I would take a bet that he will move to a place with lots of elbow room and plenty of cutting opportunities. He'll be set with the equipment he has been accumulating.

I just recieved an e-mail from Stihl tech-support, They rock!!!… I e-mailed them and explained I bought a used MS290 and gave them the serial number, They said it was made, April 2003 and purchased new in June 2003. Not that I couldn't get one but he also gave me a pdf manual for it also, They were super helpful and quick.
