I would highly doubt that as the ported 660 had increased compression and maybe even advanced timing that would better take advantage of the high octane fuel.

That just confirms what a lot of us gear heads have been saying all along. This just one nail in the coffin for the high octane myth however. A couple more saws, a stock vs stock comparison, and we can pretty much lay this one to rest.

I took them 3 times each video and averaged what I got. I broke it down into 3 cuts. It works out to 10.3% faster for 93 for all cuts.

    110 93
    14.08 11.79 16% faster for 93
    13.19 12.10 8% faster
    13.12 12.18 7% faster

Another nail. Answers the tuning question pretty well doesn't it?

Yeah I did that for KG461 and posted it on anothersite. It was pretty conclusive to me. I'll finish up the 110 and not spend double on it any more. It does smell good though.

I was curious with the 110 but understood Randys theory of why lower octane would produce more energy in the saws shorter strokes instead of what we know octane will do in higher compression long strokes

It really is more than just a theory Keith.

    I'm one of those people that read......and a I read a lot.

Hot Rod Magazine had a article on combustion chamber design, quench, dwell time, and how all that related to detonation. It was a very good read. After reading that piece, I dug into those topics, and learned a lot about how physical changes to the engine design can effect detonation.

Detonation robs power in a four stroke, but it destroys a two stroke.

Did you retune the saw with each fuel or run the same tune?

It had to relearn when it went to 93. Probably made 15 cuts before it was back to normal and not stumbling.

    Higher octane=Less explosive=More stable.
If an engine doesn't need high octane fuel (to prevent pre-detonation) , it will produce less power on high octane fuel.

I have been buying/using 87 pure NON E gas lately and mixing 32:1.

I bought 93 last time since it was so hot. It's been in the upper 80s low 90s and I've been milling. I did it last summer with 87 so it shouldn't matter this year.
