Keep in mind you need to buy a gallon of bar oil, 2-cycle mix and a gas can if you dont have one for premix gas...... oh and gas lol good luck bud and cut safe!!
Chainsaw chaps at cheap at Menards too. I wouldn't cut without them or hearing protection. I use $10 Winchester muff style from the Walmart hunting section.
I have the same for when Im not felling otherwise helmet and screen. +1 on the chaps!! Especially if you're cutting on the ground!!
I think an inexpensive new saw is the way to go unless you either have some experience with small engines or want to make a hobby of working on them. A lot of craigslist sellers either don't understand the problems their saws have or misrepresent them, and most set their prices higher than the saws are worth.
Welcome to FHC Colby!! If you stick around here long enough, you will have a half dozen (at least) saws and more wood than you can shake a stick at Everyone will think your crazy! ! Except us Keep us posted on the saw, and as others stated, wear your PPE. Chaps, Hearing protection, and safety glasses are items you should have before starting to cut.
Has anyone replaced the cylinder and piston kit in a John Deere (EFCO) CS52? Mine is scorched from some bad gas, but an otherwise good saw with low hours.
Factory Refurbished saws are some good deals, just another option you might want to look at. I have had very good experience with my Refurbished power equipment . POULAN PRO PP5020AV 50CC 20" BAR , some on this page, http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_odk...0.TRC0.H0.X&_nkw=poulan+pro+pp+5020+&_sacat=0 Another place to have a look http://www.vminnovations.com/Browse...d-and-Garden/Power-Tools/Chainsaws/Index.html
18" isn't as common. It's what I run. I have a 32 or 34" bar if I need to cut big stuff, but I've never had to use it.
Difference between the Poulan 5020 & the 4218. - The first 2 numbers is the size of the engine, 50cc vs 42cc. - The second 2 numbers are the bar length. As you will be whittling down larger pieces, I would go for the 5020. The bigger engine will be nicer. Word of caution, the bar studs are set in the plastic. Snug the bar nuts but do not try to get them "real" tight. If you over tighten them they will distort the plastic.
These two were recommended and are what i was thinking about getting when i have enough after bills to go get. I just didn't know the real difference between the two. Thank you for the explanation Oliver. Once I am able to get the chainsaw might have someone explain more in detail about what you mean by bar nuts. (complete newbie when it comes to anything but starting a small chainsaw and doing very small cutting of 6x6 landscape timbers)
Get the bigger saw, otherwise you will kick yourself afterwards. Bar nuts are just nuts that hold the bar on, don't over tighten them.
Really, if I were you I would go for the refurbished 5020 I linked to on eBay at 140 bucks, it will save you about 70 bucks over buying it locally retail, but if you wait too long those deals will be gone. Once you get the saw come back and everyone will help you with all the little details
i would if money wasn't so tight at the moment. will have to see tomorrow if i have left over of my paycheck
side note, nice thing is my father dropped off a pallet of scrap construction wood (he owns a lumber yard) so I have a nice pile of wood to use for now for my few fires that I do have.
