WOW getting that stove down those ramps was something I wouldn't want to see... kudos that you were able to get it done.

This stove absolutely gets to temp quickly--- even with the soapstone liner. It also puts the heat out fast through the big window. There is room enough to build a small fire though if you want it to climb slowly for a break in fire.

Ya'll are making her blush. Best purchase I have ever made. $500 on the side of the road. In line six with 190,000 miles. I have had it 18 months and only had to change the oil. Full bed that can handle a full load of wood.

I just looked at it and commented. I like your design, do you come up with the idea yourself??

I have a maple leaf. Fairly simple design.
I asked them to paint the leaf a red color
so it would standout from the charcoal.
My build week is the 19th.

Did WS send along a stovepipe therm in the
firebox with the other loose parts? I questioned
why they didn't have a probe thermometer, they
said they didn't have a vendor yet.

This is to BrianK and UNH. I know you both had betas last season and I'm not sure if BK had a thermometer port but it looks like UNH did, for the cat probe thermometer.
When I spoke to WS they said the stoves are delivered with the port but also with a stovepipe thermometer. Something about not getting tied into a vendor for probe thermometers before the deliveries started this July.
You guys know anything about this?

I received a stove top/stove pipe Woodstock thermometer. My stove has the cat probe bung hole which is closed with a small bolt or screw, not sure which. I have not heard anything about them shipping a cat probe thermometer but I doubt that I'll use one.

I was reading the manual last night and went over some things the second time this morning. The thermometers subject were worth a post IMO. I think I'd like to try the probe vs the magnetic type.
I'll have to ask if they recommend any certain brand and model number.

The thermometer in the picture was just a stovetop one. That was the hottest spot on the stove. I will, however be using every option because I am compulsive about knowing all the different temps.

I believe Woodstock ships a thermometer with every stove. We'll be going into our 8th year with the Fireview and as of last spring that thermometer was still within 20 degrees at several temperature readings vs the IR gun. We've tried some other thermometers but they were not accurate at all. I hate to say bad about companies but the Rutland (we had 2) were pure junk.

I had been wondering about this myself. Since I have a rear vent install and a liner, I cannot get a stovepipe temperature. When Woodstock posted that they were adding a port for cat probe, folks seemed to think that would be helpful. I was surprised they didn't send one. I know Condar has several cat probes at various lengths on their website. I am sure Woodstock could recommend a length. Any thoughts on the advantages of cat probe?

I could not see any advantage to it so have never concerned myself with it. If I want to know if the cat is working, I simply look at it and also the stove top temperature. Tells me what needs to be known.

Does the IS throw off heat comparable to a steel stove or soapstone stove?
