Of course. It just matters whether a guy wants to mess with it or not. I've done a lot of thorny honey locust trees. So I don't run from them, I can assure you of that. I took down a buddies thorny locust tree that yielded 3 cord, from one tree. The stump was 42"x48" and there were thorns everywhere.

What will be the yield vs effort put out. This is a tiny tree and probably only 6 ft in length before it turns to crap.

Something else I think of, is what to do with the thorns after I'm done shaving them off. I'd have to sit there and pick all those things up, out of grass and dirt. The gentlemen who own this farm, are going to push what's left in a pile with their tractor and burn it. That means there's going to be dozens of thorns, which are basically like nails laying around if I don't pick them up. That's an easy way to ruin tires and tractor tires aren't cheap to replace, or fix.

So I'm trying to be respectful and realistic. That's a lot of tedius work for 6 foot of 6" locust and those thorns are better left on that tree, than all over the place. I will still end up with YEARS worth of wood without that little piece.

Load 4 is on the ground because I forgot to take a picture, because I blew a tire.

Did a thorn get the tire?

Your 5 loads would heat our place for a season +. Being locust maybe 1.5 seasons.

Yep. Right through the frickin sidewall. I was dragging some limbs around to clear a better path and a few of them had thorns. They were from a pile that was there before I started. I did a quick visual, but apparently I'm Jeff Healey.

That's why I didn't get my trailer loaded today. I didn't want to risk pulling a trailer back to town, in case I got another flat, since I didn't have a spare. Without the trailer, I could at least get hauled back, if my luck got worse.

I did stop and weigh load 5 because it felt pretty salty. I'll weigh again on my way out of town, to see how many pounds I had loaded.

That sucks. I punched a hole in one of my truck tires sidewall once. It wasn’t that big so I patched it from the inside and kept it on the rear. Ran it till it wore out.

I wish I could've done that here. It must've hit the worst way possible, because it was almost like a slit, instead of just a hole. I fixed tires of all kinds for 7 years and have never seen anything like it. It went flat immediately.

I was needing to do something tire wise anyway, but was hoping to wait a couple more months. chit happens. Onward I go!

Didn't you weigh a load on your Toyota?

Yep. HL is heavy stuff!! Between truck and my little 4x8 utility trailer I had about 4,800lbs of wood (and 2 saws)! And I wasn’t stacked near as high as I typically do.

Lol That's a load for that little truck! You make that sucker earn it's keep and I love it!

Load 5 weighed 8360 total. I haven't ever weighed my pickup, but they say they weigh about about 3250 lbs with an I6, plus me, 275. So probably 3600 with saws and what not. 4660 lbs loaded, unofficially.

My truck alone was 5060. 32 seems light for a full size truck. The Jeep was 46xx.

Oh wow. Maybe it is off. I just searched "weight of a 80 C10 with I6" and multiple sites had it between 32 with 6 cylinder up to 4000 with a v8.

This is basically what mine is. So it looks like maybe 3700

    https://www.cjponyparts.com/resources/1978-chevy-truck-specs

    This is just a 2wd, with an inline 6, not a V8.

The scale is a half block away. So I'll get a weight in the morning.

Ah, 2wd would be a good bit less for sure. I was surprised how heavy it weighed loaded. It's good to know for reference. I'm not looking to kill the old gal anytime soon.

Yessir! That big round is 3' diameter and was starting to rot, but I'm burning it anyway. I've thrown whole pieces of locust that were that reddish brown color and they still put out some heat, just not quite as much, or for as long.

So apparently, whoever came up with those numbers online is way off.

I weighed my pickup with all the same stuff in it and it weighed 5020. So that load was 3340 lbs. Not too bad for a 42 yr old pickup with 330k on it.

Out of curiosity, I weighed my load with a trailer today and it weighed 11,160. So 6140 lbs of wood and a trailer on load 6.

Good evening everyone! Here's today's hauls. Load number 6. Started loading up some small stuff in the trailer.
