Im confused. Can you compare your yellow chain with the pics of my chain? Mine is labeled green but says full chisel which the cutters are and doesnt look like safety chain. No anti kickback links on the chain?

This is what I purchased from the dealer.

PS, Picco Super, is non safety full chisel.

PS3 is full chisel with reduced kickback

They are essentially the same except the green has that added anti kick back nub that lies along side the depth gauge

okay now i understand. Thanks for clearing that up. I bought my 500, 194 from this ope dealer. The counter person and i looked in the Stihl chain guide and the green was all they had. Maybe they didnt stock it? No difference in cutting performance??? I use the small saws for mostly limbing

I've only read or been told by guys that have used both that they don't notice a difference cutting but that doesn't mean there isn't I guess. I haven't put one on yet. Waiting till I wear out the green label.

You should be able to take that picture to your dealer and say order me this in which ever size you need.

    Appreciate it! :handshake:
interesting how that difference in raker shape reduces kickback.

Now that i think about it arent those the same chains that go on entry level saws too? 170 & 180?

That chain is still new and should last several years. The small saws dont get a lot of use and when they do a full tank is not often run through them.

Sorry for the hijack In the Pines :Yar:

I believe the 170 and 180 has an 043 gauge picco super mini or something like that.

Here is the other option. Whatever DL count you want.

I guess I didn't notice that. Some of the larger saws are missing too like the 462.

If you look at the picture Brad posted you can see that the drive link also has a depth gauge "raker". It's purpose is to unfold and take up space between the cutters as the cutter goes over the radius of the nose there by preventing a quick solid bite.
It has nothing to do with the tooth style.

Thats where they get the reduced kickback from. Makes sense.
