I'm sure they were. I hear those are one of the best saws to port. Seems all the 300 series are.

You are going to become highly attached to that saw. They make great all-day worksaws!

The 441C-M is a fantastic candidate for porting as well. Mine is a monster at "only" 71cc.....

I'd love chance to run one someday. And all the other stihl saws for that matter. I just don't know anybody that has one. I would snatch up an 044/440 if I found a deal on one. Those stihl saws just don't depreciate.

I don't know where you are located or where you roam but you're welcome to run mine if we ever meet.

A good 044/440 is hard to beat for a light weight 70 cc. They're a tiny bit lighter than a 372 even with 3/4 or full wraps.

If I find myself up your way I'll make sure to bother you a little, but it's a long haul from Ga.

Mike as you already know, there is a way to put a 7900 jug on the 665 but I have been promised two Solo 681 C/P kits out of Germany. I have also been told by Randy that the new slab sided pistons work better than the windowed ones originally speced out by Solo. So we may be able to work something out.

You could have got the OP's saw with "free" shipping!

Check the classifieds here. KRL had a sweet one for you that would have kept you in orange, and brand new.

From what it sounds like the newer 7900 kits are the same. They moved the decomp up on the top right. I haven't bought one to see for sure. They come with a new top cover.

Yes, but the 7900 kits are not (to my knowledge) set up for the 1mm stroked crank. You cannot take some material off the squish band to cure that situation, because IMHO doing so will throw the port timing way off.

I'm not worried about that part. A spacer will fix that. I don't think I'd take that much out of the chamber any way. The compression would be a bit high for those cranks to handle I would think. I could pull it out and weld it but would prefer not to.

Why not? It's not something one would normally disassemble and it's a known Achilles heel on these saws. I know you have the skills and the equipment. :) Or would you just rather not split the saw?

Splitting the case is cake. The HVA tool for a 372 will do it.

I know if I try to pull that on that saw with the decompression, my body will suffer. Its got pretty good compression..Has any body check it yet with a gauge?

    I didn't know you got the 441!!

As MM said, that is a great saw! And a huge step up from an 041!!

A port job isn't necessary. But man is it one saw that benefits from it!!

    This thread evolved fast!! :dex:

If you're not going all out on it I don't think its needed. A nice woods port type it should be OK for no more use than I can put on one with all the saws I have around. The port timing would be fine with a little grinding here and there.
