I seen 110 for $6.99 today. I don't think I'll be trying it at that price.

KRL nails it I have been telling people about puregas for a while but I hear the line, "I run only the premium in mine". I am very fortunate to have a station that is only 16 miles away and they carry 90 ethanol free which is about 30 to 40 cents more than regular gas.I usually get 5 gallons at a time but only mix a gallon at a time

Compression ratio does not tell the whole story. Engine design, bore diameter, combustion chamber shape all play a part too. My last truck, a 2005 GMC Canyon with the 3.5L I5 had a compression ratio close to 11:1 IIRC and it ran just fine on 87.

That chart is about correct for older pre computer stuff. The newer stuff with knock sensors, timed injector spray, adjustable timing, etc can do much more.

When you take the ethanol out of the gas what does it do to the octane rating. I believe ethanol has a much higher octane rating over gas but you're only losing 10% so maybe it won't matter much. Anybody know?

Taking the ethanol out will lower the octane rating.

So if you start with 87 or 89 octane how much will the octane be lowered?

It will lower your octane. I don't know by how much. I've never seen that part tested.

The premix oil Ive heard will also raise the octane

Other way 'round. Stihl used to have a snippet somewhere about their 89 octane recommendation being based on the fact that the mix oil slightly (and I do mean slightly.) lowers the octane rating of the fuel.

Chad is fixing to test 110 vs 91 octane in my buddies ported 660 to see if high octane benefits these saws

I cant agree with that. Oil will impede ignition of the fuel which is what higher octane also does. Resist ignition?

That was my buddy Ronnie. It was timed cuts but both my MM 461r and his MM 660 is at Chads getting a dyno as we speak. Ronnie and myself have done octane test with timed cuts on AS but wanted to see the test on dyno. So far the higher octane has given both of us slightly faster timed cuts but I know there r variables with timed cuts so thats why we ask Chad to dyno
