Okay, stamp 'DUMMY' on my forehead and send me to the home because I can't get this divice to fit on my chain no matter what! It's officially in trash can now.

Post a pic if you can. If you have an anti kickback chain with extra rakers this gage might not work.

Too late, gone. All my chains are RS 3/8 x .50, yellow, not green. I'll stick with what I've got for now, and keep using the Super Jolly for sharpening and raker grinding. They cut well and straight and I'm not nearly perfect enough to worry about a couple of thousands here or there.

Your not Dumb Ralphie, just frustrated. Wood wolverine's pictures explained it perfectly. You are using real chain, it'll work. I'd dig it out of the trash and just find someone in the know. You will be fixed up in less than 30 seconds.

Finally used the plate. This is after one 28” loop of Oregon EXL that was ran once but not sharpened yet. Only needed a few passes with a file.

I flipped it from L to R cutters. This shows about the same wear as the stand alone flat Husqvarna plate. Both of which don’t touch the hardness and thickness of the ones on their roller guides. Jury is deliberating for now. I used the “.025” slot to see how it cuts before trying the more aggressive ones.

I dug mine out of the trash and returned it. We shall see. It would not line up with any chain I have while my Husky progressive gage worked fine.

I think that extra hump is preventing the plate from going all the way down where it needs to sit. I've asked for the first thread to be edited to add not for safety chain.

In the Huskys, you can see they have an extra wide hole at the spot the hump is, the WCS does not.

I fished mine out of the trash last month and returned it because it would not fit any 3/8 .50 Stihl chain I had, no matter what I did.

Well, today the lettercarrier left a a package containing a new one and a letter from the company saying I had recieved ond that had been stamped out incorrectly. The new one works fine. Alls well that ends well thanks to very good customer service. I :salute: them!

Good man! You helped yourself and the company. I'm glad they made it right.

I was thinking exactly this as I read this thread... that it is entirely possible yours is defective and hoping that you are not like my brother who NEVER returns anything. Ever.

Glad to see a good resolution to the problem.

It was easy to read your frustration with it not working. Glad you sent it back.

You take great pictures that have helped me to understand several of the concepts/practices you explain. Thanks for helping shorten the learning curve:handshake:

I'm glad I found this thread. I was looking at different filing plates and decided to make my own out of stainless steel I had laying around. For the effort, it's worth buying one, if it lasts. Looks like the roller style is file resistant. Good to know.

    So a follow up after a bunch of use;
    A2F6F221-7C15-4BFA-948F-D221BA0AD5AC.jpeg

That slot is working great for me and my conditions(ported saws in hardwood w/ square ground chain). I’ve found that my double bevel files were eating up the metal so I switched to a Husky flat file.
    CED26C27-2DB4-429D-8B9A-EE461A0A01DF.jpeg
It’s doing much less damage to the plate so I think I’ll get a decent amount of use from it vs using the other files. I do wish it was a little thicker.

So to anyone using progressive plates to file rakers/depth gauges, I’d recommend one.

You can't make 'em too thick or they won't work.
