With the price of copper, I'd pull the wire(s) out of the conduit now if it will pull. Especially with the broken conduit.

The drain project’s been on hold for weeks as I’ve been busy with other stuff at home. Today I took a half day from work and got my stone delivered. More pictures to come as it continues...

The long easy section is filled with stone, burrito wrapped, stapled and ready for topsoil. Around the corner behind my chicken coop (where the trench starts) I need to remove a few nasty rocks and dig it a little deeper and wider. Not bad progress for today though.

Eric Schamell , looks great, Eric. Are you going to plant grass on top or just put more gravel up to ground level?

I’ll be planting grass on this section anyway, so as to hide everything. On the section behind the coop, which is shaded and along the edge of my property, I’m going to do an open French drain. Meaning, after its burrito wrapped, I’ll top it off with more stone. I’m also adding a clean out up there, in case I ever need to jet out the system with water.

This is enough for today, I’m whooped. Not a bad start on things, not having touched it for over a month.

This is as done as it’s going to get on a Sunday night. I also worked my full time job both days this weekend, suffice to say I’m feeling a little beat :wacky:
Big rains are supposedly coming this week so it had to get wrapped up today. I still have to do the final leveling of the dirt, add grass seed, and build a little rip rap section at the outlet where it dumps out, but I’m happy with what I got done between Friday and Sunday night.

Riprap is in. I might put some more time into it down the road, adding shrubs and whatnot. At least it’s functional right now.

Looks good! Lots of work with the goon spoon! Sounds like it will get a good test in the next 24 hours.

This is probably the first time in my life where they’re predicting 3-4 inches of rain and I’m actually hoping it happens :)
Nothing would delight me more than to see groundwater rushing from the outlet and cascading through the riprap

I’ll be up at 5am tomorrow before work. According to the forecast, by then it’ll have been raining steadily for a few hours at that point, so it should be moving some water. If it is I’ll snap a picture in the dark. If not, by the time I get home at 3pm it’ll definitely be spewing. It was flowing pretty good with just the trench during storms like this.

I’m thinking that this pipe might only flow during heavy or prolonged rain events. The pipe is about an inch above the bottom of the trench, and the trench itself with the filter fabric and all the rocks is going to move a lot of the water before it rises enough to get into the pipe. Then there’s the absorption rate of the surrounding soil... all sorts of variables. I guess I’m just nervously awaiting the test. As long as my yard drains I shouldn’t concern myself too much with how much is coming out of the pipe itself. Time will tell. Whatever I did will be better than had I done nothing at all. I know that since I’ve dug the trench, my chicken coop has stayed bone dry, which was the biggest motivating factor all along.

It’s working... I do however have puddles forming in other parts of the yard. I guess that’s to be expected with this volume of water. I’ll definitely need a couple more drains.
