The only reason to buy another muffler, is to have a stock one, so if the saw ever broke? It wouldn't have a modified muffler when you took it back to the dealer. But what you would want to do, is cut out any internal baffle and enlarge the exhaust outlet, or add a second outlet. You can buy a deflector online for about $10 or make your own. This is how my MS 362C-M was done. I opened up the stock outlet a fair amount.. Stock outlet After opening up Stock outlet This is what Randy added when it went to Tennessee to be massaged. This is a "dual port". It's a second port made by drilling a separate hole on the opposite side and adding a deflector. All it takes is a Dremel and a decent cutting bit.
New saw is going to be ported today. A buddy I buy logs from time to time has a boy that works for his logging out fit does it all the time.
You can still clean up the ports and widen them Clem.. Have you ever seen some of the Wild Thingys on YouTube that some of the builders have done?
Yep i have seen the "wilder thing" and that is one Wild Thing that I would want to own!! I really want that saw just cause!
Oh and I own a ms390 so I am talking and joking about a saw that I also own. I know its not the exact saw but very close and weigh the same.
It doesn't matter what anyone else says or thinks. If your happy and it will get the job done faster than the 250? Then your good to go my friend. The difference between a 391 and 441 are pretty big. As well as the price. You are the end user. Not myself. I started out with a Husq 435 and a Husq 455 Rancher. They did everything I asked them to do. Until I bought my 1st Stihl 036. That was the start of my CAD. I have gone crazy ever since.
Like Dex said if u like it good for you. The 390 was my first saw. I wanted a 440 but like Dex said there is a huge difference in price but also in performance. The 390/391 will beat the pants off the 290/291 yet the 290 sells better. And there the same weight. Once you modd the muffled the 390 will eat the 290 and close the gap on a 440 but still not come close. I bet the 390 with a decent muffler modd will cut close to a 360 factory. I can't say for sure as I have never used a 360. I have briefly used a 440 and a 460 and I own a 390 like I said. I have used a 290 and was very UNDER IMPREDSED. My bucket list saw is a ported 460.
391 is going to cut a lot of firewood. And do it faster than the 250. If you have no call for a bar length over 20", then I see no practical reason to buy a 441.
Careful before you call them boat anchors..... They sell a helluva lot of them and they are built far better than the MS290/310/390 they replaced IMO.
Very true.. I think the new 291/391 will be solid platform and be liked for years to come. By many, many, firewood cutters.
Kinda wish I would have went with 441 but muffler been mod I know I could buy a new muffler and replace it but wouuld the dealer let me trade out? I ant done nothing but start it some how I would thing I had the right gap for me 250 441 and dont thing it will get off my mine till I do it.
