I picked up a 371 a few weeks ago and it was idling high and chain was creeping so I backed out the L and T and it sounded better and stopped the creep. The L screw came to a stop. Is there a limiter on how fat you can make L? It’s idling at 2800 to 3000. It’s revving out to 13,200. This may be recommended peak rpm, but I’m a Stihl guy and it sounds unsustainable. there is a limiter on the H screw that will not let me back off H anymore. I noticed the oiler screw is counterclockwise to increase oil, that is opposite Stihl. I don’t see how the carb screws could be opposite, but why would counterclockwise be limited? I know why lean would be limited, but why limit richening the mix, especially if it’s turning 13,200? I can see the white plastic piece limiting movement on H. Is it ok to pull the plastic tubes and limiters off? It’s a pain to find the screws through the tubes. I have to lay the saw on it’s side to get at H. Throttle response is good and it’s good in the cut, just trying to figure out why I can’t go further counterclockwise on L and H Do I need to add pics?

My experience is if it’s limited anywhere by the factory, it’s limited everywhere. Meaning H and L. It’s fine to pull the limiter and ritchen it, but if you need to it’s because there is another source letting more air through. Muffler mod, air leak, etc. 13200 sounds ok though According to spec, you have a little margin to lean it. 13700 is target, oem
Limiters are there for the epa. If you rotate the limiter, you’ll see where it lines up with the slot. Thread a drywall screw down into it, turn the limiter backwards until it lines up again, and pull it out with vise grips. Trim the tab off and reinsert it where the slot heads line up. If the plastic is wallowed out round, heat up the end of a tuning screwdriver and push it all the way down into the metal jet slot.
Ok thanks for the help. I’ll take a closer look at the limiters and removing them. The muffler does not appear to be modified. One outlet on top. I’ll check for leaks also
