Usually, each generation wants the newer generation to be better off. I can see where some would view the choice to burn wood for heat, as regressing. Regardless. I'll be making and burning firewood for heat, for as long as I am physically able.
Lincoln will turn 9 years old this summer. The plan is to do just bundles, but would consider selling measured amounts of loose firewood if there is demand. My plan is to have wood rounds ready for him. He will be responsible for the splitting and stacking. I will help him with the bundling until he gets the hang of it. Then he will be responsible for stocking/monitoring the stand and collecting His earnings each night. I’m glad to help him with any step, but want him to have the satisfaction of each step of the process. I’m excited for him and will keep the forum posted as we go!
I agree. Think of just how social we are as people. And yet we as a society are all tuned in to our little tiny screens. Yet another way to control our lives and keep our attention away from what is really going on.
I’ve always said there is zero financial value in selling firewood for me. What you’re doing has more value than a monetary value. Good job!
Hey if you are worried about people stealing bundles you could invest in a firewood vending machine. Here is 4 different ones.
P Pretty impressive units! I’m trying to keep it on the cheap I’ve seen some of the vending machines in the state parks here in Michigan. Pretty cool. Figure what they want for one of those, I could afford some theft and still come out ahead Sweet videos though and nice to see how the better half lives
The boy and I put together a jig for him to build his bundles with. He is able to place the wood across the 2x6 cradle and has enough overhang to wrap the ends of the bundle. Little guy has to strain a little to get it over the side before carrying it to his stack, but he’s able to do the whole process himself. He’s pretty excited and the jig seems to work pretty well! Gonna let him get ahead a little on his stock before we put together a stand for him, but that’s next
Here's my bundling jig. Bundles are 9x9x16 .75 cubic ft. I use 12" wrap but will unroll and reroll to precut to 9' pieces inside beforehand. Trying to wrap with a big roll is impossible. The 4" roll your son uses will work too. The jig is several years old and has been fixed/modified a few times. Too lazy to make a new one. Most of the time assembled right n the tailboard. I dont put handles on the bundles.
Threat [Great] looking bundles Brad! No need to rebuild if it’s still working For ya. Do you sell bundles or supply bundles for someone else to sell?
I really should proof read more than I do At the same time, I think these phones have a mind of their own sometimesGREAT looking bundles
If he makes enough to be happy. He is learning a good work ethic motivation and time with dad. That’s worth
