Going out to cabin in 2 weeks. We have a couple trees slated for milling. Let’s see some ideas for skidding them out of the woods with a small tractor. Ideally would like to keep the whole thing off the ground to save my chains from dirt/rocks and whatnot. Maybe a log tong on the 3 point and some sort of dolly on the azz end? I’m not sure really, just looking for simple ideas that involve no welding or major projects. Could just kill them where we drop em but would like to get them closer to cabin for convenience factor. I know you guys got em and don’t mind showing off the pics! Thanks.
This is what I have been using to pull logs out. Can't got the whole log off the ground but it helps. Not sure how big your tractor is. It's great for moving the splitter around too. 2-in HD Receiver Hitch, Category 1, 3-Point
Log skidder & snow? Hydraulic winch on a small loader tractor? Build a dray to haul them out on? Honestly, a log dray is cheap & quick to build & really works well.
I really like this one from Dr Power. "3 Point Hitch Log Skidder | DR Power Equipment " It's stout and does a great job for me. I use it with a choker chain. I've skidded some big logs, like 30" x 12' oak, 32' poplars, etc. w/ my 39 hp tractor. 2" hitch receiver is super convenient, too. Bonus, it's made in New Holland PA, USA
If you want to keep it simple and very little cost, you can throw together a dray in an hour or two. The one I built cost me around $10 and it works so goo I can use the atv for hauling logs. But remember you can build to any size you want.
It was my idea but I can’t take credit for the welds. Welder at work welded it for me. He is as good as it gets.
I love a good fab job. Note that the top link is the weakest part of the 3pt - most tools are built to pull in line with the lift arms. You see very few 3pt backhoes of any size because of this.

I've used this a few times to move logs. I made a hitch adapter so I could use the ATV or tractor to pull it.
