    So I assume that the lever works: full left 100%, full right 0%...how about doing what you propose there, but move it to the right of the lever, drill a hole in the lever, make whatever you attach to the stove so that a lock can be attached to it and the lever...could even slot it for a minimal adjustment as needed.
    Or just put up the baby gate/fence with a lock on it...

    Small hole in the lever and the wire could be used to lock it in place, or as mentioned it could be restricted from being full opened.

    These binder clips are very strong surprisingly and easily removable if need be.:coffee:
    Doesnt bother the ash pan at all.:cheers:

    Im sorry for your loss.
    The weld sounds like a good idea, either that or some sort of stop. Just make sure there is no pine in the house. :eek:

    Thanks Brad,he was a good guy.:yes:
    There is alot of resistance on the clips and i cant see her forcing it if she gets a notion and will watch her for a few days around the stove as i dont really want to install a railing but if she isnt watching herself around it,one will have to go up.:salute:

    My 2 cents on a fence around the stove when kiddo was little, we had a heavy gauge plastic (honey comb pattern for strength), just far enough from the stove to open the door and had a split in both hands being careful not to touch the hot stove, I leaned on it too many times and on a 4am reload (pine burns quickly) it buckled, I fell forward and the corner of the stove bruised my ribs. If you get one regardless of type might no be a bad idea to brace it and reinforce it.

    The paper binder clips is clever and cheap. Are they on the inside? Could they melt (weld) if stove is choochin' hot?

    I'd end up in the stove ww with that railing.:hair: :coldone: And just dropped the one on the right a tad as it was getting the squeeze part pretty warm.;)

    No Dew came from Mom and SIL is my pink eye buddy.:D

    Could you install a small C clamp on the backside where your fingertips are? Easy to remove if you need to.

    There is a little lip there but not enough to get ahold of. Added another clip and i know she wont reaf on it as she feels the resistance on her stat at her house. Full right! :hair: :coldone:

    Ok new problem..The clip now comes forward when you slide it hard to the left. Dremel will be out tomorrow for a little groove to catch it on the slider.;) :cheers:

    So yours slides laterally and is not a push/pull damper. Why not just put a wedge in the gap.

    You know...if a feller was to cut and bend a piece of flat stock the right way to slide into that slot to block the lever...maybe bend it so that it can't easily be pulled straight out...kinda hooks onto that bottom lip or something...
    Edit: Looks like XXL beat me to it...

    Next I was going to suggest mounting an 8 inch stroke DC linear actuator with a biometric retinal scanning lockout with a 16 digit rolling code override keypad (in case your eyes are a little fuzzy first thing in the morning)....but hey, if a paper clip works :whistle:
