I love the way holly smells. I stand a split up a few feet from the stove and it gives off almost a sweet Vanilla type smell. My wife said it was an over-powering smell, so maybe go easy on it.
I struck out on a Craigslist oak score, but made up for it at the dump. Yellow birch. I got there before the loader pushed it into the pile.
Bringing up the rear, some catalpa chunks, red oak with the sapwood rotted off, and 3 dry pine rounds for my grandson to practice on with the X25. Hoping for a bonanza tomorrow!
I’m helping a friend take down a few red oaks around his camp, two leaning over it. This is the third load with several more to go. It’s over an hour away but I like oak and he’s a good friend.
Apple from the dump today... It was a big one, I had to leave some chunks I couldn't lift. Got it set up to cut, some other day. Never start anything after 3P!
It never ceases to amaze me what ends up at the dump. I mean really, here in New England you've got a tree to take down and you don't know ANYBODY that heats with wood??? No neighbors, family, coworkers... And apple to boot? Nobody they knew had a smoker? Enough ranting from me, that's a great score on your behalf I have over half a cord of apple I'm really looking forward to burning in 2021-2022.
I picked up a load of old oak, not the best, but still good. Craigslist, and they had friendly goats. I had to drive down a trail to get to it, and now my car is leaking something underneath. It seemed like water. I left it at the shop. Probably should have stayed off that trail.
