So when these logs got dropped off I thought for sure they were sugar maple. Now that I’m cutting it, I’m having doubts. Doesn’t feel too dense. What do you all think?
I agree that first pic looks like sugar bark and wood and 2nd is ? Old Red Maple can have bark like that as well as Silver. Been ages since I cut Silver Maple, but I cut down and old Red Maple yesterday and was surprised at how hard the wood was compared to other Red Maple I have cut. Probably depends on what kind of life it’s had and size of rings.
I would also add I have had a log dropped off that I thought was red oak until I cut it up. It was 50’ of Blackgum. What a nightmare splitting that crap.
