My trx300 with decomp is so easy to kick start. But its a honda :)

A few days ago my atv cut out as me and my wife and son were riding. He loves to ride and we go around recall slow. Like golf cart speed or slower. I had burned about 1/3-1/2 a tank like that. It died twice till I got it restarted and got it revved and kept it high. The first time it started and rode like 5 seconds the next time or two it just died right away. Not sure if trash got in the carb or the plug was fouling out? One I rode it around like I stole it for a few miles havent had it since. Not during the ride or after...was one of the two maybe?

I've been pull starting my 500 Foreman for a couple weeks, tapping on the starter fixed it for ~1 month.
It pulls over super easy, starts the first time(can't say that would be the case on a cold morning;))

Kicking my old xl600r was no easy task. I can tell you that.

Well she broke the other day. It's leaking engine oil from the rear driveshaft. So it's probably just an engine seal. My buddy broke it while logging with it. The rear DS boot was ripped anyways, so maybe this is a good excuse to replace that too. I think I'll tear into it on Thursday. We're down to zero ATVs now down here at home since the regulator is shot on the Polaris.

Maybe we fix the Polaris sportsman first since that should be an easy fix.

Old big bore dirtbikes were so much fun kickstart! I had an 85 cr500 that could whip your a#@$ if you didn't do it right. And as for the Kawasaki bayous, those are great machines.

One you get to my last part I might need to lean on you a little. Sounds like you know these machines pretty well. I've never had one apart to this level. It sounds like this seal that went on me has gone for others.

    I think it's part 92049-1309

    The boot is 49006, $20.

I'd assume that the rear axle needs to be pulled, and the rest can all be done?

Looks to me like the axle can stay in place. Would imagine the nut and washer need to go.
Just replaced the rear boot on my 2018 Polaris. Didn’t expect that to go so soon but I do drive it through some nasty vines and branches. You tube videos helped even though none of them were for my specific axle connection.
Looks to me like your seal isn’t much different than today’s. Axles yes, they’re different. Seal looks pretty much the same. The tough job is prying it out. Think they make tools for that. Saw a little bit of that on YouTube just searching for boot replacement.
    Good luck.

oh, check for slop in that axle in case it’s not just the seal that needs fixin.

You are not alone Horkn... yesterday, I saw a bmw suv pulling a trailer, and it definitely caught my eye. Something you don’t see every day.

As far as having something to keep the wheelbarrow at home, I couldn’t agree more. Have had the same thought myself. Thought about a four wheeler, but think I’m gonna muscle through and keep saving for a tractor. We’ll see if my back talks me out of it. Not a lot that I can’t get to with my truck though. My truck is a firewood beater though with dents down the sides and rear and a torn off passenger side view mirror from this winter. Would definitely be getting a four wheeler if it was an audi:rofl: :rofl:

Congrats, and you’ll have to let me know how the four wheeler works out for you:yes:

I'm thinking it worked out ok, the post is from like five years ago and the Audi was gone like a year ago or more...he has already broken it at this point it looks like.

I have a tractor and it sits now that I have the ATV. Mostly because my old tractor (MT) is such a pain to climb aboard and dismount.
She pulls the wood and lifts it onto the splitter for me. All without breaking legs and shins getting on :)

Very clever use of the atv winch! Had to blow the picture up to see everything you got going on there. Work smarter, not harder....I’d like to learn that lesson someday:hair:

Yep. Dad's passed, Audi sold, broke the bayou, and now own a fairly new F-150 that not only couldn't fit in the woods trails that we use the ATV for. The newer sportsman is down here since I did all the tough work and found mom a new 2019 yamaha Kodiak 450 for up at the cottage.

Might need to put a new piston and ring set in the bayou because it has blowby, from the rings.

That's why the Polaris will probably be fixed first. Easy fix for that, hopefully.

I had to learn that lesson real fast ;) Always worked like a Jack Assparagus until one day I exploded my spine with lasting effects.
Only thing that changed on the ATV is those hard rubber wheels (bow rollers) were replaced with the hard yellow plastic ones. Rope cuts through the rubber pretty quick. Hard plastic work much better. My mind said it would be the opposite but nope, plastic it is.
Eventually I will also get rid of the wireless Polaris winch controller. Wireless sounds great but this particular Polaris controller is JUNK!!
Not sure if I’ll try another wireless unit or just a plug in controller.
If I had to do it all over again I’d mount the battery and winch right to the splitter. Wasn’t easy getting all that electrical stuff to be compatible. And the dealer did it, not me LOL

Ok, in addition to firewood work today, we started working on the bayou.

The rear axle needs to come off in order to replace the seal and the boot. Some of the books came out, some are being stubborn.

I'll get pics next time I'm out there.

I've never had the rear drive out of a Bayou, but that looks like a very similar setup to the Hondas of the same vintage...yes, axle needs to come out before drive unit can come off...not really that bad of a job...unless Kawi figured out how to overcomplicate something fairly simple...dunno, hope not!
Edit: looks like they use a 2 piece rear axle...that's a new one on me...not sure if that helps, hurts, or neither.
