Hello, I attached an image of a piece I need to replace. I'm unsure what it is called but that hole is freezing out my basement. If more images of the setup are needed just let me know. Thanks in advanced. 20200301_181114.jpg

It's where the back of the stove shoots up and attaches to the chimney opening.

It was like this when I moved in back in August. It definitely needs a tune up, but that was the first major thing about it that I noticed. Here's the rest of it if you see anything else I should swap out.

The grate is shot. The glass has a bunch of furnace cement on it indicating a problem there. And the stove is pretty old. If it was me I would probably be looking for a new stove.

    This ^ ^ ^
The stove looks like it may need some TLC too...hard to tell for sure from pics.
If you are just trying to block the cold air from coming in for now, I would just stuff some insulation in the hole...that's assuming that the stove doesn't get used.

I took off whatever parts would come off, the roping needs to be replaced but that's easy enough, the wiring to the blower needs to be redone it completely snapped off when I moved the cable, the rest of it is solid, I'd like to use it, but the last fire I had going in there ended up smoking out the entire basement, I'm assuming from that hole in the block off plate and there was some leaking out from the bottom right side of the glass in the door. Fun little house project.

You need a liner and you need to figure out what's wrong with the glass.

The furnace cement just crumbled off when I put it on a table so I think that might have been the issue, didn't have a solid seal on it anymore. You wouldn't happen to know what kind of liner I should get for this?

An insulated stainless liner the same size as the stove outlet. And yes I know the furnace cement will just crumble off. I question why it was there to start with.

That glass mounting repair doesn't look very safe. Could you give him some links for a liner like Rutledge or similar? Can you tell what size pipe he needs for the liner?

I can't tell the size no it looks like it may be 6" but I wouldn't want to bet on that. I personally prefer not to recomend one brand of liner over another. But for an old stove like that I would recommend a 304 heavy wall flex liner.

It is a 6" outlet. So basically just get a liner and shoot it down the chimney then hook it up to the back, like a dryer vent? I also noticed some kind of insulation between the inside of the metal frame and the glass window. Is there something specific I need or can I take some of the left over roping and shave it down to fit? Should the front not have cement like that? I bought some to replace it with, but if it isn't supposed to be there at all I try and find a manual or some original pictures.

Well yes basically you just drop the liner and hook it up. Sometimes that is simple other times it is far from simple. You will also have to clean the flue smoke chamber and shelf very well before the liner goes in. With a setup like yours that may be very difficult. In addition make sure the liner is insulated

Went from a semi easy weekend project to a full blown "thing" overnight. Oh the joys of home owning.

TJMas , we had to really coax and sweet talk ours to get it down, they are not as flexible as they look. We bought one where we applied the insulation ourselves, looks like they make them preinsulated now, I would have bought that but did not see them at the time.

We inherited a slammer and clogged chimney when we bought this house, ended up using a chain adapter to break chunks off, jumping off Bhollers post...... If yours has chunks like ours, its dangerous and the liner will not feed down.

Best way to check the chimney is just sticking my head up there with a flashlight I assume. What should I be looking for in there?
