We replaced the old, cheap, low toilet in the spare bathroom of the main house today with a nice, modern, ADA-compliant one today. Father-in-law really appreciates the taller seat. We also put in a Toto Washlet for warm water and air cleaning for the nether regions. Yes, it does have remote controller. :loco:  If he likes that, we'll put those in his new addition, too. He's been asking about something like this for a while 20200301_210734.jpg to help with hygiene.

I gotta say, my hats off to you for doing this. So many times our seniors struggle with their current living situations. You nice folks are building a place for them, someone will always be there to help. Very nice job!

Thank you. It's a blessing to have the resources to take care of him, even if it's not always easy with the everyday work.

And now there is a large hole in the concrete wall. Hours of work with a Stihl MS461 concrete saw. Crappy drizzy day today.

Do it while the excavator is there.
Even if you gotta rent it!
You might need to switch the controls if you're used to one kind. I can't run excavator (Cat) controls...

Thanks for the encouragement. I'm trying to walk the line of being very involved vs. giving him enough room to take care of things.

    Nothing wrong with that.

    I was thinking
Use the machine while he's not there using it.

This does not sound like fun.

Cool thread Mike. Good luck with everything. Looks like they have it all under control. :ithappened:

Hah! I joked around with him one morning and said "You'll notice of few extra hours on the machine," implying exactly what you're saying (but not having run it). He said, "Naw, I wouldn't noticed, no problem." So, this would be a viable option.

Door boarded up as the rain came in this afternoon. My wife says our foot/foundation is currently a moat. Will have to keep an eye on that.

All done to local code and inspected before poured. I'm no expert so I have to rely on that, I suppose.

Laying block today. BTW, there will be a foundation drain even though it is not technically required by code. Yesterday when it rained, the existing foundation drain for the main house was actually running in to the footer trench because they needed to open it up when excavating against the preexisting cement wall 20200304_092819.jpg . Also, some of our downspouts were also temporarily heading into the trench. Thanks for keeping an eye out for me. Much appreciated.
