Awesome! Boxes still make the best toys!
I saved the box from our new water heater for the kids to use as a tunnel out in the garage while it was too cold to go outside to play...

Quite annoying that such a minor detail went unchanged, even after they were made aware of it, huh?! Should have never made it past their design dept...or QC!
    Good solve.

Couldn't the minimal door/knob clearance (with a little stretch of imagination, Hey Disney and Microsoft do it) be considered a feature somehow ?

Try to avoid hitting the baffle when adding wood as they are sort of fragile. The good thing is they are loose so if you do hit them they just get dinged; mine has quite a few dings.

Will certainly be better and easier on wood and the outside air. Big question remains if it will throw the heat that Warner is a capable of. That isn’t really the issue either. What will be the tell all is if it throws the heat you need while using less wood and making you happy. The last part will seal the deal.

Priceless photo of your son!!! You will cherish that for years. I love children!!! They are such a blessing to our lives.

    He's good with a knife.
Pampers for a clean chimney was a good choice.

I used the knife under his direction.

my uncle did give him a Swiss Army knife recently. I though my wife was going to have a heart attack!

Time will tell... I’ll try to keep you posted.
I do not expect this stove to be able to put the heat out the wood beast did. I know it won’t. Fill that thing with a healthy arm load of 26 inch splits open the draft and look out!
    repeat every 4 hours.

Lol!!! Yeah...all those stoves like that we’re capable of nuclear meltdown temps.

You should have all the heat you need, I hope and think so, while using less wood to boot. Always a plus.

One thing that is defiantly going to have to change is my fire tools. They all work on a stove that is almost 2 1/2 feet deep. Way to long for the new stove.

If not it will go on Craigslist. The beast will be happy to go back into service.

Pete Rose said ‘if choking up was good enough for Tye Cobb, then it was good enough for him.’ Hard to argue with the two greatest hitters in the game. Not sure if it applies to wood stove tools, but it’s with a try. Lol!!!

I hear you. My old wood stove is on deck for some repairs. Plans are being made for modern modifications and a possible reliever position just in case her services are ever needed again.

Sounds like you have the right perspective...even though the new stuff is more efficient, it also takes more time to complete all the phases of a burn...especially coaling, and since BTU/hr output is largely about how many lbs of wood you can incinerate per hour, taking twice as long to burn that "healthy arm load" means less BTU output in that hour.
Its all about finding the right balance between efficiency and "horsepower"...

Important point many may not think about or have knowledge of.

The question remains though if the stove can literally “take the heat” when and if it’s called for. Not having experience with this stove or any newer modern stove, I can’t say if any of them can “take it” if called for...running wide open often, that is. As you mentioned, the balance point is what he’s after and I’m rooting for that for him.
