My condolences to you and your family. Hold on to the memories and smile when you think of him.

 

We picked up his ashes and flag (Air Force) on Friday, now he is back home with Mom. She is getting by, but I can tell it's very hard. We made her dinner last night and we both spend some time with her every day.

I was hesitant to post this thread at first, but I have to say that sharing this here has actually really helped me.

Thank you, all. The journey is not over, but we've taken the first step.

Saying goodbye to your dad is one of the toughest things you have to do in life. Even if it it is expected to happen it seems like it still catches you off guard somewhat.

 

Can't like this. Just saw this, you and your family are in our prayers. It's good you got to see him, remember the good times. Hold your mom up.

We were both big Larry McMurtry fans. Just like Gus did with Call, Dad gave us one last adventure to go on with him. He wants his ashes spread on the ranch where he grew up, a couple of thousand miles away. Will really be the best thing for Mom, and maybe me, too.
