We have a few wood stoves on the showroom floor that have been reduced to sell because they won't be compliant soon. All of the Harman pellet stove since October have been 2020 compliant. damm near every stove will have a cat
What are some of the good ones that will be illegal soon? I love my napoleon stove but I might be tempted to upgrade to a good deal.
Hearthstone shelburne is one on the floor that uses the burn tube system. All the new stuff is a cat.
What regulations do fireplaces (not inserts) have to meet? Interestingly, the least efficient means of converting carbon to heat seems to escape the dreaded epa?
I'm not at all sure they are even regulated but am sure there are building codes they have to follow.
I can't find where this includes wood stoves. Do you have any links, Lyle? I'm thinking "heating devices" does not include wood stoves. Or wood stoves are not considered the "main" heat source.
I'm wondering if "inserts" fall under a different standard. Kinda like wood furnaces did. That chart shows a 1.5 for emission rate. Pretty hard to believe they're getting those numbers with a secondary air tube system...
Those are great numbers!...Well ...unbelievable actually. So i had to go searching. Woodstock won the EPA challenge with the IS at 1.04 grams/hr. Kuuma is claiming 1.0 gr/hr on high burn. Excellent results indeed. Kuuma is a gasifier?
Yeah, they call it an updraft gasifier...but still has secondary air tubes...its a little different setup...
There were a few cheap stoves on the market that passed some old epa standards by being designated as fireplaces. It seems the loophole is not having any means of regulating intake air. Even had secondary burn systems. Chewed up a load of wood in a couple hours flat. I’m sure that’s old news now.
I just searched that site twice and couldn't get that to come up. Lb/mmbtu is a different measurement than grams/hour of emissions. I've been checking them out. Looks like an awesome machine. Well built. And spendy, of course...
I was very fortunate to find mine 6 months "used"...Lamppa said they would honor full warranty on it...and considerably less $$ than new! Did have to make a run to Wisconsin to pick it up though...tried to stop and see Horkn , but that didn't work out...one of these days...
brenndatomu isnt your Kuma more of a furnace and less of a stove. I looked at them and since I have baseboard hot water heat it quicker fell out of the running..
Yes, 100% is a furnace...which makes it even more impressive that they hit the emissions limits without using a cat, because the larger the firebox, the harder it is to make them burn clean! And this is not a new design...same one they have been using for many years...with a few minor tweaks every now and then...according to Lamppa, my 2014 0r 2015 built (I don't recall which) VF100 is fully up to date with a 2020 model, with the exception of one internal part that has been changed from 304 to 310 SS...and I have recently updated on mine, just as a precaution.
I think it’s a VT only thing, Efficiency Vermont, been 10 years since I did new construction, I will look them up, at computer.. I personally havent seen any fireplaces or stoves in new construction here in years.. you won’t get the numbers needed on blower door tests. Literally if it’s a vaulted ceiling you have to have R 68 insulation. This forces use of spray foam. Which don’t get me wrong is a great insulation. But it certainly takes the pricing of the new home out of the first time homebuyer price point.
https://publicservice.vermont.gov/energy I love part that says no heating over 70 or cooling below 78 missed part 2015 regs
