All my parts I had ordered finally arrived and I was able to get a drive shaft back together.

Gotta do more shells soon and I did not want parts getting lost...
Grabbed my bag of pieces and headed to the shop.

Took maybe 30 minutes to gitterdone.

A perfect text book R&R JOB.

The text book was written by someone who was working with new parts both ways...

Getting all the used parts clean, rust free and making sure there are no burs on the critical surfaces is also not in the book....

Having the special tools makes it possible too.

Machined up a little adapter for the ball joint tool made life very sweet.

Marking all parts prior to disassembly is paramount to keeping the shaft in balance upon reassembly...

The special tool is THE ONLY WAY to get the worn out ball off the stub easily.
The ball is not supposed to be pear shaped...ROUND IS THE WORD HERE....

Cutting it with a die grinder and a cutoff wheel can be done, but I found the tool on ebay for $20

New the tool is nearly $300...

Yesssssssssssssss...STEEL STAMP EVERYTHING SO WHEN ALL THE NUMBERS ARE LINE UP...YA BE GOOD.

All pretty and can be set aside for a bit, and then it's time to do the other end...

Good for you Snowy. I have done many constant velocity universal joints and although I got good at them, I dreaded every one.

This particular set up came from an S10 extended cab truck
I am using it in my project rig.

The 3R series Saginaw type are easy to rebuild and very forgiving.

The centering ball is pressed onto the yoke and is easily removed and replaced.

If ya got the tools they are a breeze..

Trying to manhandle them on the floor with a hammer is a real nightmare.

I had this one in my large vise at waist high level.

Very easy to get after it with the tools.

The joints are held in on these with injected plastic..

Warm the thing with the torch until the plastic pukes out the holes....good to go.

A couple sharp whacks with a good club to dislodge the joints and then push things out with the u joint attachment on the ball joint pusher and my 18 volt impact wrench.

I like the 18 volt tool as it's not as harsh as the air impact.
Easy does it seems to be better and does not break stuff ....

Clean everything and then stuff in the new parts.

Not my favorite job....but not all that bad either.

It was 50 degrees outside yesterday, so took the opportunity to get out on the roof and do a mid-season cleaning of the P68 flue. Looks like we have a relatively mild stretch of weather for the foreseeable future, mostly 40s days and 30s nights.

I did my 1 ton(ish) cleaning yesterday. Also did a dump run to ride the rest of the demo from the bath remodel. Plus sanded the drive and roadway so we could get back up it once we came home.

Back to doing the bondo to the drywall. Maybe try out the new grill after my afternoon geezer nap. Wifey is hitting the supermarket, Hope she picks up some steaks?? Heck, I'd settle for a good burger. :D

She knows I work for food and beer!! :pete:

Refused to work this weekend after the 30 hours in 2 day fiasco last weekend soooooo time to catch up on what I have not done in the last 2 weekends. So much for resting today but heh it had to be done so I was getting low on pellets and all it takes is a 2'-3' snowstorm to make my life miserable meaning it really becomes a Biatch to get pellets into my cellar.

So today I had the mission of replenishing my pellet supply to where I felt comfortable and that I did . Grabbed and loaded down to the cellar 2 tons of pellets one which I have never burned Easyblaze Super Premium softwood pellet and the other would be my first ton of Matra.
