    Get this...
Anthracite coal stoves are exempt from regulations...yet many of the stoves designed to burn anthracite will burn with blacked out glass...even with their air wash technology. Legacy stoves for example...used to be under the Harmon brand...made by Harmon. Their TL series and there Mark series all...borrowed from Harmon, under the AHS/Legacy name (Alternate Heating Systems/Legacy) have and use the most modern of Harmon/Legacy airwash designs...yet the coal...as clean as it burns...still turns the glass back. Why?

If nothing else comes of these posts, at least you know I hate dirty glass. Might as well have a solid front stove.

    That is a beautiful stove....
How well does it get you through the winters?

No one promised you a rose garden.
A dirty window just means the stove has been used in low mode, or poor fuel.
I doubt you'll find in any user's manual a promise of a clean glass in low mode or when using poor fuel.
    Just the way it is.

An air wash doesn't clean the window. It helps keep the window clean.

It does really well. When it gets below 10 degrees or so I turn on a blue flame wall heater in the basement, other than that it is our only heat source in a 120 year old two story brick farmhouse.

dirtdevil, are those stone window sills next to the picture of the stove??? if so, I'm jealous. Nice work. When we built in 2007, my wife insisted on real window sills. Ours are stained, / poly-urathaned wood, but I'm very happy we have window sills throughout the house instead of picture frames.

If I had the money when I got my 30, I would have opted for a BK, dirty glass or not. My glass is dirty right now, but stays clean for a while once outside temps drop and I can get a better burn. Cleaning the glass isn't a day long affair. Unless I let it go way too long, I can clean the glass in less than a minute. Been burning most of the month of Oct....lots of small fires and only wiped the glass twice. Not really needed, but I was bored.
Dry wood is key, and even with dry wood, older stoves still aren't even close to burning as cleanly as newer stoves.
I highly doubt ANY stove will burn so cleanly as to keep the glass from getting gunked up at least partially.
The perfect stove that always has clean glass and a perfectly clean flue system hasn't been made yet, that I'm aware of.
Time to jump off the fence and pick one. As I said, I'd buy a BK in a heartbeat if money wasn't an issue....whichever size I needed (I know which I need/want).
So in summary, get a new BK, burn dry wood, clean the glass every once in a while, and be warm. Done, and done.

Going to have to wait. Here's why...

...I've got Hitzer 354 coal stove I'm going to try first. Got it barely used for a song... It'll burn wood, bituminous, or anthracite...which is what I'm wanting to try. If I don't like it, then I can think more about a wood stove. By then 2020 regs should be well in place and manufacturers will have plenty of more models coming by then, I am sure.

Not stone, just wood that has been stripped of the paint. Need to get the rest of the trim stripped and put back on. Then get some stone laid up behind the stove. Old house, slow remodel..:makeitrain"
