I presume it's what some would call a "walk out" basement. Meaning not all 4 walls are below ground level.

I didn't know what it meant until I bought a house with one...

A daylight basement is part of the basement is open and exposed to the grade of the back or front of the house. Typically one haft the house's basement is below grade.

Here are some pictures of my place...

The stove is on the right side of the house.

Off line for a bit watching the Steelers get beat...

Apologies for not posting any pictures of the setup. The current propane stove will come out - I stupidly vented the gas stove on the wrong wall not thinking I would ever put a wood stove in. The wood stove will need to be vented on the right side wall. Concrete floor with tile over top, so no need for a hearth. I will need rear protection where the wallboard board is.

Venting of wood stove => straight up 3 feet then two 45 degree bends then outside. I will then need a tee (clean out) on outside of house. Please let me know if I am missing something here. The venting then goes up 14 feet to the top of first roof line. I suspect I will need to go up another 4-5 feet above first roof line but need to take some additional measurements. Most likely will have it professionally installed.

Simply fed up with my propane price going up every 6 months. It was economical a number of years ago but the price just seems to steadily increase.

The local tree guys look for wood burners like me to "drop off" wood, in SW Connecticut they apparently have to pay to dispose of it. Arborist drops it off in 15 foot sections, I then buck, split and stack.

I am 99.9% sold on the IS over the Ashford. The smoke smell is a bit of a deal breaker even if it is uncommon. Thanks for the heads up on that.

Why can't the current location work?

We'll soon realize the suffering years of team rebuilding.

Could be worse, Chazsbetterhalf is a Bills fan.

It could work, but the stainless steel liner would be a bit of an eye sore in the back of the house. My planned location is on the side of the house and nicely hidden.

Remember lower but woods can be your friend when it comes to a cat stove. Find some pine and maple to burn for shoulder seasons. Still get the longer burn with lesser cook you out of the house heat.

You don’t need anything on the wall behind the stove. Just need to meet minimum rear clearance requirements. My bk is 6” from painted Sheetrock.

You are so right, being sarcastic. I can stir up coal a couple days after loading to restart with no matches. Got my replacement cats and gaskets, but forgot to ask them about the radiator as it's very warped and flaking. Maybe give them a call in the morning about that. Need to get it cleaned up but this is from the bottom step going upstairs.

No problem, as I said, you couldn't have known.
    :)

Besides, they shouldn't have lost. The Seahawks shouldn't have gotten their first TD. The snap on that field goal was well after the playclock hit zero.

I realize that we don't really see the official play clock, but from what we saw it should have been a delay of game penalty, not some "roughing the center??" penalty.

    Ahh, the joys of football.
    :headbang:

Bet that if I had one of those "fitbit" monitors on I could show that football is detrimental to my health.
    :rofl: :lol::rofl: :lol:

    Blood pressure certainly skyrocketed.

Shoot, I could whip you all if I were a Lion's fan. I once was. Now I rarely pay much attention to most football although I do quite often watch a few playoff games or Super Bowl. In fact, that's about the only time I turn our tv on. I should probably sell the danged thing.

I heat our whole house from a walk out basement installation with an outdoor chimney. It is very convenient for cleaning the chimney and bringing in wood. The woodstove sets close to under the forced air return duct to the furnace. I have opened that up and keep the furnace fan on to move the heat throughout the house. We have a 2800 sq.ft. colonial.

My sister has a walk-out raised ranch with a wood stove heating from the mostly insulated basement and so does mom heat from the basement. Warm floors are nice. Especially warm wood floors.
