Hello pellet heads, just grabbed a ton of Pure Fire Pellets and they are a pretty bad pellet to say the least. Lots of shorts and fines in every bag so far and they create a lot of ash and don't really create enough heat. It's my own fault, I went to TSC last weekend and when I walked in I saw the TSC brand pellets in the red bag that I have already burned and I was pretty happy with the results so I figured I buy a ton this time. I just told the cashier I wanted a ton, she cashed me out and I drove around back and the guy loaded the pallet on my truck and I drove home. When I cut the white plastic off the pallet I saw white bags instead of red..... DOH! Oh well, I own them now so I'll give them a try. Don't care for them at all, has anyone ever tried these? I would avoid them, especially at $249./Ton! Not a better way to heat your home!
I tried them earlier in the season and did not care for them either. A lot of ash and not a lot of heat. Would not buy again. If it's not too much trouble, bring them back and exchange them for the pellets you really want. Suspect they will let you do it, no problem.
Meh, I'll still use them so not really interested in bringing them back. Just heating my basement with them, and it was my fault for not asking what brand of pellets so just more of a live and learn situation. I just wanted to post my experience so someone else doesn't waste their money on these. Wouldn't be bad at $3.00/bag....
Yeah, the Harman has no problem with them at all! I've run about 5 bags through so far and the ash is very clumpy and nasty so you're right about more cleaning!
I bought some a few months ago from TSC, need to refer to my notes (sheesh I now keep notes on all these) No more buying Blazers or Vermonts.
I only grabbed 3 bags of the Pure Fires and I was glad to be rid of them. I would be pretty disturbed if I had to suffer a whole ton of them. So much ash, and it's the kind that quickly collects in the burn pot causing lazy flame before you know it.
Really? I was under the impression that they were both real good pellets. I know the Vermonts have gotten great reviews in the past.
So let me clarify for the price I paid (well over 300/ton no more buying) If I score a deal like TT and others did then I will. I love VT and Blazers, but now I am using other pellets and getting 80% of the heat for more than 20% savings, need to adjust my thinking!!!
Now I went to my little review paperwork on these. I rated them quite high for heat and good for ash in my stove. Understand I burn only when home and about 1-1.5 tons max a year. These pellets worked great in the st Croix!
I thought they were decent. Good heat and ash was not as bad as some others. They aren't rocket fuel but they kept the shack warmer better than a few others on the not list. Still would rate them a "Not" as many "Hot"s kick them to the curb. But if all I could find were "Not"s? I have to say they were one of the better ones.
I only bought 5 bags of these but they are burning very well in intermittent on/off usage, which is usually more challenging. Burn pot is spotless and ash is a nice light gray and lower than average in my opinion. The pellets are on the longer side but neither stove had an issue.
Should slide well with the sheen. A shiny, dusty pellet seems to slide the best in my galvanized hopper.
I would agree. My Englander has a hopper full and am interested to see how they slide. Although with Spring here. (Maybe?) I might not get to see how they do this year. Guess I will just have to buy more next year.
Hey not so fast! The 10 day forecast is showing days with highs in the mid-50s and overnights in the mid to high 30s. That's still burning weather for me!
I didnt look ahead!! With those temps there is a very good chance I will have a fire in the morning and at night.
