I abused the bar with about 4 tanks of gas making trails at moose camp.
I think I ruined the bar, I clean the hole, & a minute or two later it's plugged.
Either that or the oil pump quit.
    almost a new chain.

Picked up a new bar & rim drive today, will try that first.
(rim drive just because it is probably due)
Needs a good cleaning after too.

How to check the oil pump ?

Had a chain made at the Stihl shop today,
looked hard at the new 362C.

They had a 261C - 20", which may work for my type cutting too, but the chain is .325 .
Not sure what the advantages are 3/8 & .325.

You can check oil flow with no bar on. Should be a small stream ooze out there. That rubber sealing ring may need to be cleaned out from behind it so it can seal better.

Dave double check the chain drive link gauge - I mixed up some .050 chains on an .063 bar and had the same struggles.
I drilled the holes at a downstream angle with the chain motion - I think Stihl does this to their new bars

    This ^^^ :)

Run with bar and clutch cover off. If you don't see oil coming out, then the rubber boot is plugged up downstream, or the oiler is shot.

Have you checked inside your oil tank? Maybe flush it out with some Kero/Diesel. There is a small filter that can plug on the end of the oil pick up line. Although I have never seen it? It's not impossible. Especially if you drop a fee chips down there every once in awhile.

Oh do I wish I'd read your post before the new bar ! !
But first (you know me) some pictures.

First the tool I had tool make to take off the clutch, I ground down an old junk socket to have 3 ears.
Impact wrench on low, clockwise, spins it right off :)
    DSCF3794.JPG DSCF3795.JPG

Clutch off & check the drive rim gizmo :
Show enoh wear to make me glade I'm replacing it.
    DSCF3797.JPG DSCF3798.JPG

Now down to the oil pump area, (was much dirtier than I expected)
Pulled the rubber hose from the oil pump to the bar, (in my fingers in pic below)
a little dirty but seemed OK. Then
I tried to blow thru it, had to blow pretty hard but & a slug came out, it was thick milky oil :bug:. (water in oil )
I think I got some water in my bar oil jug, ? ?
Running it off & on , in below freezing temps, the water hit just right to
    freeze/plug the hose. Possible ? ?
    DSCF3801.JPG DSCF3803.JPG
Clean the area: sprayed some brake clean the some light oil. Greased needle bearing. back together.
New bar on it, old one did have a loose nose roller but not bad. I think the old bar is still ok.

    ? for saw gurus ?
As i turn the pump gizmo that turns the little gear to the pump,
I get a pulse of oil out the little hole that feed the hose to the bar, about every 5 or 6 turns. Normal ?

Also I bought a new gallon of bar oil today.

Are you revving the saw? Or just letting it idle?

Put the bar on, rev'd it up, no oil off the bar,
With bar off, medium RPM, barely a trickle out the oil hole to the bar.

When I took bar off, no oil in the new bar grove.

Don't worry about the bar at all. Leave it and the clutch cover off.

It will only sluggishly come out when revved. It isn't gonna "spit" out of that hole.

Pizz rev it a few times. :dex:

Is your oiler turned all the way up?

Finally got oil to the chain & bar.
I think multiple small issues made for it to fail.

Found the suction tube/filter with what looked like a mini hair
ball right where the pump hooks to the suction tube, & some thick syrupy stuff behind it.
Cleaned it & the pump, (That was all that was left, except bad pump.)

    Finally ;
Got oil to the chain, can go wood cutting again. ( & have a spare used bar )

    Was in position # 2.
Will turn it to #3, that's what book recommends for a 20" bar.

Learned more about the saw than I knew before.
Glad I had the little craftsman 14" to finish up the last few logs& finish before dark.
Will add a more thorough cleaning to the end of year general saw maintenance.

I think over time, moisture/dirt/ gunk got in the oil & migrated from the tank to the bar & the cold
might have been just the catalyst to jell/clog it all up.

    Whew;
    for a while,
I thought I'd have to go buy the MS362C to get
the rest of this years wood cut. LOL :)

Pretty sure we have a couple parts 359s here at the shop if you ever need parts.

The shop does small engine repairs. Husqvarna, Efco, Poulan, Stihl, McCulloch, weedwackers, pressure washers, lawn mowers, generators, etc.
As well as logging/land clearning, firewood and sawmill.
Mat Valley Milling 746-3030. Russ or Carl

I haven't messed with that side of things, busy enough with firewood.

Run the oiler wide open unless you're using more oil than fuel. Glad you got it straightened out. The only ones that gush oil out without a bar are a 3120 and 395. Those will have a river coming down the side of the saw.
