Key hole fire pit integrated into a patio?

We're going to build a patio in the back yard this summer with either bricks if pavers. Nothing elaborate, just a spot to hang out.

I want to build a key hole fire pit as an integral central part of the patio. The fire pit would be lined with firebrick and then surrounded with pavers or red brick. We have a building materials salvage yard here that sells firebrick and red brick cheap.

Any thoughts, suggestions, or advice appreciated, and please post pics of key hole fire pits if you've got them. We're still in the brainstorming stage so any pics or ideas would help.

 

Seems like I remember seeing a picture of that somewhere from another member, but it might have been back at the other site.

I would totally do it. In fact, I will in the next year or two. Unless we decide to build a deck.
