It is a rainy day here in the Hoosier state so I headed for the shop to clean up. The saw was on the bench so I cleaned it up a bit. Then I decided to pull the muffler cover just for the heck of it to check out the P&C....both of which looked great. Then I got to looking and found that it would be super easy to drill an additional hole right next to the stock outlet for a muffler mod. I used a 5/16 bit which will give me room for a little more in the future if needed. Pull the muffler cover then pull the rest of the can...6 bolts total. Bend back the retaining tabs for the spark screen and remove. Drill a pilot hole then to final size...clean everything up with compressed air and warm water. Reassemble. Total time is about 10 minutes and no special tools required (I don't own a dremel) and it keeps the factory spark arrester in place. If it has to be dealer serviced I doubt they would notice. Fired it up and it sounds good...not obnoxiously loud. If the rain takes a break I'll put it in some wood. If I can do this anyone can.
Increase the noise. I bet the OP extra hole will barely be noticeable with ear muffs. You should wear ear muffs anytime you run a saw. Even a stock saw is LOUD!!! You may not think so but they are.
Just took it for a spin. Noticeable difference. Pulls a 20" bar buried in white oak with authority. Louder for sure but not bad....I wear foam plugs anyway.
Good job! I'm thinking of doing something similar to my MS260 Pro. Did you need to adjust the carburetor any? Other say you need to remove the rev limiters first to get enough of an adjustment once you mod the muffler.
Yea you have to pull the limiters on your 260 to most likely. Maybe not depending upon how wild you modd it
Here's the way we do the MS362. It's pretty simple really.....the deflector is made from 24ga sheet metal. We use a small vice for a brake of sorts. Rivet nuts for the screws.
Howdy Randy! Did you buy a rivnut kit or did you just get the tool and a few rivnuts in the size you need?
I got the tool, and then a few extra adapters for different sizes. Finding the thin flanged inserts can be a challenge.....
