    He ate these with his grandfather (born 1921), not sure but I think they actually gathered them then cooked and ate them. Anyone here venture to guess live or steaked abalone and if live a particular species?--(From Stockton, whatever beach they were on was likely a only a few hours away, different species from upper coast of Cal than middle Cal or So Cal?

    Any insight or guesses appreciated, thanks.
