    Hi Guys

Just bought a ton of okanagan platinums for $300. Looking to get another ton for mid winter. Still have a ton of mwp from tsc from last year. This year tsc is only stocking the Genevas which, if like maines choice, do not play well with my stove. They also had la cretes for 360 for the 60 bags. Reading the review section I might spring for the la cretes. Any thoughts? I've always burned "value" pellets but after trying some softwoods last year and my stove loving them and me loving less ash thinking of going la crete or another ton of okanagans. There seems to be a glutton of choices in my area this year also have pres to logs for $277 available.

I love the LaCretes but your best bet might be the PTL's. I've never burned them but others on here should chime in. Are they the hardwood or softwood? If you do go with LaCretes, you'll love them.

I've never burned the ptls. I'll have to stop by and check them to see if hard or softwood. I think I'might talking myself into the lacretes the more I read about them. I saw you commented on the review of them, may I ask what your number one pellet choice was subsailor? I saw lcs were your second.

La Crete's get my vote. One heck of a softy!! If ya need to pinch pennies a bit. PTL's are a good pellet. A bit more ash than the softies, But heat is on par!!

If those PTL's are softies?? all bets are off and they get the top vote!!

Can't go wrong with LaCretes! Maybe grab a few PTLs just for testing too? Suspect they are hard wood, which I have not burned, but they have a good reputation and seem well liked by others here. If they are PTL softies, buy as many as you can fit, you will not be disappointed!

Like Jay said, if you pinching a bit get the PTL's...if not LaCrete's.

Okies gunked up my stove as well. Have burned PTL in the past with great results. If they were available around here I wouldn't hesitate to buy them.

A little OT - I have often wondered why pellet burners prefer softwoods. From what I understand about pellet manufacturing, it should make little difference, but apparently it does. What's the difference?

Just curiousity - I don't burn pellets, and have no plan to do so.

I've found that I have gotten more heat out of the softwoods with less ash. At least on the test bags I ran last year. I have decided to give them a run this year and compare consumption and cleaning intervals and see if it is worth it.

Less ash content is softwood fiber as a general rule. Certain fiber(for instance Douglas fur) is extremely cleaner.

Just found out the PTL's are hardwood blend. Guy said the pellets were overly long as he had purchased some. Over 1.5 inches. I think I'll go get the LaCrete's as they still have a large stock of them.
