I finally made some time to cut and haul a Black Locust that Came down during Sandy. I was planning to cut it last year, but it was overgrown by weeds by the time I could get to it. It was about a mile from my house and a very quiet street. If we had been hit by the promised gigantic blizzard from hell I probably would have had to wait until March to cut this. The snow here is only a few inches deep now. Here it is. That is the beautiful Hudson River in the background. The plan was to cut it into sections and drag it out onto the street to cut to rounds. The F250 made easy work of that. First one cut and loaded Next Making progress. I think the snow made for a smoother ride out of the woods. Last one A nice, quick, little load.
A few more pictures. All gone. It was gonna be a nice sunset, but I had to go. Hopefully I get this split and stacked on Saturday. This will go in the stove some time in 2018 I guess.
I'm burning about 98% Red Oak this season. Probably the first year ever that I have no BL to burn. While the Oak is nice, I really miss the heat of Black Locust.
Glad you kept an eye on that downed tree, and good thing you didn't get the snow you were expecting. (cuz we got what you didn't) You have a good wood hoarding eye...
Thanks for those pictures flatbed. I know we've talked before about some of the areas where you get firewood and how lucky you are that you find it close to home. Those pictures with the river in the background are super!
NICE!! LOVE BL! That and Red Oak make up the biggest portion of my stacks which is awesome. I find the BL dries pretty quickly surprisingly. 1 year and it's good!
