Here's a buddy and I trying to retrieve a rod that got pulled under the ice. It starts a little slow but the ending is fun
Ice isn't really thick enough here yet. We had 2 kids die on the ice last week after falling in 3" ice. To be honest, I have fished 3" ice, and never thought that was too thin until now.
Yellow perch is king around here. De-scaled, butterflied, rolled in some Andy's Cajun seasoning, then into the deep fryer.
no hidden meaning, I truely appreciate different dialects. this one below is obvious: http://firewoodhoardersclub.com/for...oggle=1&cop=mss&ei=UTF-8&fr=yset_chr_win&fp=1
Oh, an I haven't identified the older couple from the cartoon curious george yet, somewhere in NE. I called Blaze King corp last year and loved the NW accent
Ah, ice fishin. Not something I do on a frequent basis, rather, something to relieve cabin fever in the depths of winter. Pickeral and perch are fantastic for their willingness to hit even in the coldest temps. Me and some buds will chop a few holes in the ice and vertical jig with ordinary twister tails. Less that five minutes from me is a lake that has 30lb pike and the place is a zoo when the ice gets thick enough for snowmobiles, shanties etc. I'd rather go out for a few hours, down some coffee & Kahlua and head home for chili, pizza etc. I have a lot of respect for folks who ice fish to put food on the table. It ain't like a round of golf on an warm spring day.
Great thread!!! I cannot wait for the weekend after the Superbowl. I will be going up to Lake Winnibigoshish near Grand Rapids, MN for the best perch fishing I have ever experienced. There is nothing like get a clear head looking down the 8" hole. We use the very light test line and it is a blast. The best is the fish fry at night. Just like eating popcorn. I need to go it the fishing license, almost forgot. This will be over 15 years in a row. I guess one of these years I should take my son since he just turned 22 and he can enjoy the adult beverage with his dad - is a totally different subject.
Ya gotta love ice fishing ! Had the shack out over the weekend and also fished a little tournament. 25,000 holes ready and waiting. The fishing wasn't great but it was a blast
Largest ice fishing tournament in the world... Final count not in yet but I'm sure it was well over 10,000 anglers again this year. We went out Thursday - Sunday, something about that ice cracking when your out there
We call them ling. I looked them up and cusk burbot and ling are slightly different but all closely related. Another good eating fish. Most consider them fresh water cod.
I know ling as ling cod, from the pacific ocean northern California, Oregon, and Washington, probably up through Canada and Alaska too. They have to be from the same genus though, as they look the same. A little Wikipedia search yielded this... In lake Michigan, they are called lawyers. Especially near door county. I had some on Washington island at the top of the thumb of Wisconsin above Green Bay. And they were tasty too.
